 Quake 2 as HTML
http://code.google.com/p/quake2-gwt-port/Google engineers re-write Quake 2 completely in Javascript + HTML5. If HTML 5 can do this, it might completely re-invent the internet. Not sure how much bandwidth this requires, but it's a great proof of concept on what HTML 5 will be capable of.

 Re: Quake 2 as HTML
I've really been kinda intrigued at the coming of HTML 5 but I never really could get a sense what it could do, till now.

 Re: Quake 2 as HTML
I pewped in my pants when I saw this. There's so much shit involved in making a server now-a-days. CTF is like the hardest game server in the world to make, because it requires so much anti-cheat and other shit that it's ridiculous.
I've been playing for over 10 years now, and it's still difficult for me to set up. I've been playing a lot lately, though. I'd love to set up a ClanArena Server, a Quake II CTF server, too. They virtually cost NO resources at all.

 Re: Quake 2 as HTML
yeah but geno the difference here is that it includes the single player version with no downloads necessary... it plays straight from the browser without needing any client side programs, patches, etc.
i like q3live. but I STILL want to set up a Q2CTF server and a CArena. What do you say geno?

Maybe we ran in the same circles. I still get together with my SpB friends at least once a year in Vegas. If you ever up a server I can try to get a few of them back in.

Very very nice gameplay, but the height of the tribes era was nothing like the height of q2ctf. It was competitive multiplayer gaming at its purest. Running the flag in q2ctf was a rush, but running it in tribes was un F*CKING believable. I do have to give tribes the edge in that-- as a flag runner, there's way more difficulty due to the open spaces, turrets, etc.
