n00bfest Tournament: Season 1

Advertising on the 12th for the tournament.

Q: How are teams going to be decided?
A: Teams will be randomly chosen. A Team consists of five players.

Q: Will the tournament will be free.
A: YES! The tournament will be free, however, your team will need to show up ON TIME and play
their matches in order to make it worthwhile.

Q: Who can register for the tournament?
A: Anyone who has registered on the n00bfest forums is eligible for the tournament.

Q: When will registration open?
A: Registrations will be open on 14th of December.

Q: When will registrations be closed?
A: Registrations will be closed on MIDNIGHT of December 17th.

Q: What day will the tournament be held?
A: Date for the event will be held on 19th of December. (We're still working on the start time for the tournament, but it's looking to be 4:00 PM CST.

Q: Will I be able to watch the matches?
A: We're working on getting the servers set up with all the rules and configs, as well as HLTV on each of the match servers.

Q: How many servers will there be?
A: It depends on how many we will be allowed to use, and how many players sign up for the tournament.

Q: What if a round ends up longer than it's supposed to because the bomb is planted?
A: If a timed round exceeds the time limit because the bomb is planted, that round will be extended until the bomb has either been defused or blown up.

Q: What will the map rotation be?
A: The rotation hasn't been decided yet, but we know there's a demand for dust2, cbble, inferno, nuke, and train. These will definitely be considered as our maps. The chances of adding aztec are slim, since it is a one-sided map.

What are the rules and regulations?
The Ten Commandments will tell you all you need to know about rules and regulations. This is holy word, and to follow these rules are wise. To break them
will end up putting your butthole on the market for demons from hell to rape.

1. Any player found cheating, ghosting or hacking in any form will be banned on sight. We will be watching.

2. Teams will be chosen at random. If a team member decides to leave early, or can no longer stay for his appointed matches,
a ringer must be found. If the team cannot find a ringer for the match, the match will continue without that member. If the team chooses not
to play with inadequate players, that team will forfeit that match, and will also forfeit their rank in the tournament as well as their ability
to play in the tournament.

3. This tournament shall be a "drama free" tournament. Any drama that is provoked in the tournament will be dealt with. Unecessary drama may result in your
team being disqualified from the tournament.

4. Like the ten commandments, the admin's word is the word of God. Any disobediance in orders given by the admin may cause your team to be disqualified.

5. Demos will be recorded by every single person playing in the match. Recording of the demo will start BEFORE the FIRST Live On Three (LO3) execution, and will
be stopped at halftime. Another demo will be recorded for the second half. It must be recording BEFORE the SECOND LO3 executes. In addition to recording demos,
players will have to upload their demos to the n00bfest website on an FTP server. The information for the server will be provided at a later time. Once a demo
has been submitted, no one will be able to remove it.

6. Matches will last for no longer than twenty-five minutes. Each half of the match will be ten minutes long. Intermission will be five minutes. All players are
required to be in the match server five minutes prior to their scheduled match time. If a player is unable to make it to a match, that team has ten minutes to
find the necessary ringer(s) or they will forfeit that match. No exceptions.

7. Players NEED to respect every other player in the tournament BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the match and tournament has completed.

8. Only stock Counter-Strike: Source maps will be played during the tournament. No CAL/CEVO/CPL maps will be played during the match.

9. Any player who has connection issues during the match will be allowed to rejoin the match at any time, but if multiple disconnects occur, they will need to be
replaced by a ringer.

10. Once a team has either lost or forfeit a match, each player from that team will be be eligible as a ringer for other teams participating in the tournament.
In addition, if a team already has five players to play, no player can be switched out with a ringer. A ringer is simply someone who helps in a time of
necessity to complete the match. They are not someone to trade.

More information will be provided as we work on this. Your feedback is welcomed.

I understood what you meant by if someone payed for their spot in a tourney, they'd be more likely to show up for it. And that the money is basically a n00bfest donation more than paying for the tourney, but i was trying to point out that it would just limit the amount of participants. Old news now though.

Depending on config, a half could last 3 rounds.. Not really ideal. I know you are trying to get matches started quickly and over to get on with the next match, but a slow-fuck team could make the match last 8 rounds.

Ghosting. What would be ghosting? How could you ghost? If it's ghosting from HLTV, run a small delay on it. Calling after you die isn't ghosting.

Maps. Guessing stock maps are just going to be the big 4 and not aztec, dust, cbble, or prodigy also?

Nothing else really to say or ask except everyone sign up and show up!

look man this tournament isnt for everyone to start calling crazy cal-i strats and walk around the whole map.. 10 min halves, 2 min per round.. would basically force people to either rush or lose rounds. this tournament would be more about the fun of playing with a shit load of people then anything else. if a team decides to be super tactical and shit.. prepare to lose.

also, i threw ghosting in there to cover our ass, just in case some douche bags would try something like that. im thinking vent will be pretty lax during matches so people moving channels and saying THEY ARE GOING B could happen. no need to think too much into these rules tho.

id like to limit the maps to something small. office, d2, prodigy.. something that wouldnt take half the round to run across.

this is still a work in progress and the dates are not set in stone. once we see a response to some polls we will start to get the ball rollin.

This sounds like a great idea, Loads of fun. I look forward to playing, or at least watching if everyone else that joins would stomp the crap out of me.

had a concern about timing but timing the rounds themselves works just fine by me. thanks for the clarification high.

Not really saying that people will call crazy ass strats. A simple rush B at 30 secs or if they go A and the other team is sitting in site and they decide to run away to the other site will take almost the entire round to put the bomb down from there. The team that decides to be the most tactical will probably win unless "random" teams get stacked due to them actually being random. I dunno about you, but when I'm in my match I really wouldn't want people in and out of my channel either. That would get annoying as F*CK. I suggest that you make 2 locked channels for the teams that are playing, move them into the channel. It would prevent ghosting, because it will happen and it will almost be impossible to prove it, and it will prevent any sort of channel spam from anyone being a dick. I understand you are trying to make it fun and chill, but all it takes is one person to get mad and make a new alias and channel spam the F*CK out of a team while they are playing, then there's really not too much you can do after that because all they have to do is change ip's. Maps like office and prodigy probably aren't the best maps to use. Choke points are long and often on those maps and really can't fit more than 2 players through them at a time. Very hard for a team to take something on those maps, then try to hold it short-handed. As for maps being small, almost every stock Source map's bombsite can be taken in less than 30 seconds with the exception of Tides, Piranesi, and Port. Just know there was a league that ran a 1.33 roundtime in Source.

if a team wants to be tactical or not is up to that team.. now im not saying people should not call strats. they need to call shit that wont waste time. part of the whole problem with our tournaments is they took way to long and people either got tired or lost interest. i know you can run into b on d2 from t spawn in a matter of 10-15 seconds. that leaves enough wiggle room for a simple strat. that also keeps teams from over doing the strat and causing teams to stack more then others. simple shit like 3 long 2 short will be enough. im not really worried about choke points because in a rush situation, that is where the most carnage is. and lets face it, carnage is fun.

as for vent, i can see what youre saying but to hand out the password to 40 people 5 at a time is just adding work. vent admins will have to watch vent. also there is whisper macros you can create or what ever they call them which allows for people to direct talk to anyone in any channel, so that will have to be fixed also. its just a precaution and we want to let people know if we catch them doing shit they will be banned.

the point of this is not to win so much as have a good time. winning will just be a perk. this tournament will bring us together as a community and bring some much needed outside attention if everything works out alright.

just F*CKING trust us.

Not saying to hand out passwords, there are simple check boxes for vent. 2 passworded channels. Noone knows the password. Vent admins move a team into one, and a team into the other. Disable "Allow Cross Channel Transmitting", "Allow Paging", and "Allow User-to-User Transmitting". Would take less than a minute to setup both channels and moving people into the channel takes a mouse drag. I'm not trying to down on the chokepoints, it's if the T's take hall on prodigy, or CT's try to take anything on office, they are probably and almost always going to get mowed down by the defending team. Losing 10-1 in 10 minutes is not fun. There are reasons why certain maps aren't played outside of pubs anymore, they aren't fun, and they are completely one-sided with very little room for the attacking team to get rounds. That carnage that is fun is when it comes down to a 2v2, 2v1 situation after it, not a 5/4v1.

If you want me to stop commenting about it, just say so, but all I'm doing is pointing out things that you want to happen that you are overlooking in the other direction.

Post Re: n00bfest Tournament Info
alright the vent i can understand and i know can be fixed, im not taking ghosting out of the rules tho so we can drop that. its not hurting anything by being there.

i dont really care about the choke points on maps, these teams will be random and there is no possible way to know who will do what untill it happens. if a team happens to get mowed down well then they try something else. i just really dont want to get a custom map that every F*CKER has to download and learn. and i dont want to play d2 for 6 hours straight either.

your comments dont bother me but youre not providing a solution, youre just nit picking at shit finding probable problems.

i know that you know we are trying to make it fun, but lets face it, there is only so much we can do. a lot of responsibility will have to come from the players them selves.

That ad is amazing high. If that is really the ad we are using we should post the shit out of it on other gaming forums, unless we are keeping out non n00bs. That could really increase our traffic and likelihood of having paying tournaments.

And if vent will be a problem, why not just limit voice to in game only, even though the quality isn't as good and you can't make calls after you're dead, which isn't all that bad IMO.

I don't think vent is a problem. Spyda is right about the config changes in vent that will make it a non-issue.

Although, I'd love to play a map like fire, I understand why we're sticking with default maps. I think there are choke points in all the default maps, so it's probably just over analyzing. My only suggestions are to do only de_ maps and probably rule out prodigy. I'm not adverse to playing de_dust, but you might get some bitching on that one from people who aren't used to 5v5.

Have you guys finalized how you are going to break this out into random teams?
