 Need a new OS
I just got an external HDD to back up all my media. I wish to format my current drive get that bitch all cleaned up (getting a little sluggish) and install a new OS. Since i built my first PC i Started with win2000 upgraded to XP. Then i purchased a laptop a year ago with Vista. I like XP the most out of all of them.
I want to wipe my laptop and put a new OS. Question is XP or Win7?
Need your opinion?

 Re: Need a new OS
I vote Windows 7. It has all the good of vista and less of the bad. Just takes a little tweaking at first and it's great!

 Re: Need a new OS
Windows 7 is the best choice right now...I am pretty sure Microsoft either has dropped or will soon drop support for Windows XP.
In any case I am running Vista and Windows 7 and both have been fine. I had to strip out all the useless crap from Vista like the sidebar and shit, but Windows 7 has been running quite well right from install.
If you don't use the laptop for gaming I would actually go with Ubuntu over anything else right now...it's the best Linux distro I have seen by far, much more user friendly than RedHat or SuSE.

 Re: Need a new OS
You can always add another internal hard drive and run XP on one and Win7 on the other! My buddy does that due to his guitar software runs on XP! You'll have the option at start up which one you want to use! Just a thought!

http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2 ... 3-2010.arsMicrosoft will end official support for XP next month. My guess is that large businesses will continue to receive support, but there will be no more publicly released service packs or updates after 7/13.

If he gets XP now and downloads the service pack 3 update hes good! Support for service pack 2 is no longer going to be available! I only suggested that if he wanted to get both and have a choice at start up. (Since he likes XP) But if you dont plan on buying a new OS before July 13,then you most def should go with Win 7!
