The Nvidia GeForce GTX 590 is out and its a whopping $700! Apparently the reviews I read said it will "liquify" any game you can imagine at the highest resolutions, anyone gonna murder their checking account for this?

Does anyone really play any games that are so graphics intense that ONLY the GTX590 will provide the performance they need? There's no way that's worth it, and like reborn said, the price will drop later. You can buy 2 PS3's or 3 xbox360's for that price and play more games than you know what to do with. Don't be such a ignorant consumer :D

Totally not worth the money. I can smash two Matrix 5870 platinums together and assrape that card. Two chips at a lower clock than their last model.

NO video card is worth that much. Almost $1000 after everything is said and done. I could get three XBOX 360's AND a PS3 for that price. F*CK that.

ATI 6990 is supposed to be better, and it has something stupid like 5-6 monitor support on 1 card.

The reason why we have such ridiculously overpriced components is because there are people who actually buy them (they need to get themselves checked out). They are dishing out more and more hardware without waiting for programs to be able to actually utilize all that power efficiently.

It's economics actually reborn, something like 2% of the population will buy new technology at any price just to say they were one of the first people to own it. Happens with the iPhone too. Anything really, and then they start decreasing the price after a month or so.

But as you also said, they're pushing out hardware faster than software. After Moore's law fails for hardware, software has a lot of catching up to do on hardware. Most software out there isn't streamlined and isn't written well. To be short, its written awfully and only to accomplish the job on some base level.

This is going to merit a response from some of our programmers, but its true. Software has a lot of ground to make up.
