Newegg had no interest financing for 12 months.

Just ordered this:

Antec 900 case
2.8GHz i5 CPU
MSI 5770 GPU
GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 Motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333

To go along with my 80GB 10k Raptor and existing optical drives/power supply.

Maybe I'll finally be able to play Empire: Total War without it F*CKING crashing every 30 seconds... and I might just install Windows 7 instead of XP. Who knows?

What kind of setup did you have before?

All for less than $700, too. Should be a pretty decent rig. I've never been one to spend a shitload of money on the latest and greatest... which is why it's an i5 and not an i7. It's still a massive upgrade from my dual core AMD CPU w/ 3GB memory and 8800GT.

How does the financing work? Do you have to get a NEWEGG credit card?

You should definately install Win7 without a question(i'm guessing that was just a joke when you said you might.) But if you don't you wasted money on the memory. Either way, very nice! Enjoy all that shit!

Windows 7 won't make any difference regarding RAM. XP or 7 or any other Operating System that uses 32 bit addressing won't see more than 4 GB. It just needs to be Win XP x64 or windows 7 x64.

It's only worth it if you have the fortitude and means to pay it off before the interest kicks in. So get the deal now and then pay it in full when your tax return comes back, that's a great value considering you get more use out of a new rig without losing financial stability.

Don't be a dumbshit like me and sign up for these deals then think you're off the hook for a full year. I'm still paying off stupid shitty debt that I accrued with the wrong mindset relating to credit.

Off my high horse, I think you'll be pleased as punch Adam, esp. with the switch to win7 and all that ram. Processors aren't too crazy different these days in my experience.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get 2 x 4GB (2 x 2GB)? Also you would get memory with lower latency (unless you already got this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231402 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231403)

edit: I'm dump and can't read - looks like you got one with lower latency...

Dirk: yeah, I'll pay it off when I get my tax refund. Should be pretty fat this year... and I'm getting a bonus in May or so -- should be at least a few grand. I'll definitely have this AND my car paid off pretty early this year.

Carrot: the board I got has 4 slots, so I went with 2x4 so I can expand to 16GB if I feel squirrelly enough.

Ya, I forgot about that. Don't mind me, just making myself look like a moron Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_37 either way, I think you'll like Win7. I think it's much nicer than XP.

I'm actually tempted to get a TV this way. I need a 55"-60" TV for my living room. Couch is too far for my 40".

My return is gonna pay for my car and leave me with about $3000. That $8000 First-time Homebuyer credit kicks ass.

Gman, i think you will enjoy the awesomeness that is an i5 processor, especially if your only running a dual core right now. ( like me )
Hooker that sounds so sexy

Hehheh.

Nice setup.
Im stayin with AMD myself when I finaly upgrade.
Never had a lick of trouble with em. I think Im the odd one out though. lol.

As far as processor goes... You still want to aim for higher clock speeds.
So if you had the choise between a 5k dual or a 3.4k quad, Id stick with the dual. It will be faster in the long run... until the new windows OS comes out which should have full multicore support! (no windows doesnt have it right now, i dont care what you think you read, its still written for a single core computer and uses a single processor to handle the thread management of the others...)
