My wife wants one for Christmas -- just something she can throw some songs on and listen, but, apparently, she also wants to be able to see what song is playing (basically, needs a screen). I was looking at Walmart, and saw that they have iPod nano's for $150, but then they have these SanDisk MP3 players for $50. Does anyone have these SanDisk MP3 players?? Are they any good? They all seem to get good reviews, from what I've seen, but I never know if those "reviews" are from real people, or the SanDisk company, you know?

From what I've heard, Sandisk makes pretty good mp3 players for the price. Cory has a sansa and it's pretty solid.

SanDisk is a nice manufacturer, before I was sold on iPods being worth the price premium I was a sandisk man fighting the grain of the hipster ipod owners.

If all she wants is music and some control over playlists/seeing what's on then by all means a cheaper alternative will do the trick, and Sandisk is a great place to start.

If she sees others with ipod touches and wants what they have, spring for the touch, despite being a hipster novelty it really is very good value considering that it's a full fledged computer.

Yea, I have an iPod touch and love it. I like the fact that you can add apps to it and it has WiFi.

Yeah, been owning a Sandisk e260 for a couple of years, and it just started to shit on me (bugs or display problems).

The new ones aren't rated as good as the old ones though. But Sansa's good quality.

I have an iPod touch that I rarely use since I have an iPhone 4, but I love it. If you don't mind paying a bit more, it's definitely worth it. You can connect to wifi networks and check e-mails and facebook, play apps/music/movies. The iPod nano is nice too, plus it's smaller which she might appreciate, depending on what she plans to use it for.

Yeah it really depends on waht she plans to use it for... maybe you just snore too loud so she needs it to sleep.

Most cell phones are mp3 capable, did you see if hers is?

Yeah but the quality isn't always enjoyable or the battery isn't powerful enough for like 10 songs in a row.

Cell phones?? What are those??! No...we have cell phones, but we have basic, pre-paid ones because we don't use cell phones. We're still one of few people in the US that have home phones, if you people even know what those are!

I just got the Optimus T...I listen to music all day for no apparent reason and my battery does awesome. No need for an ipod

But an answer to your original post joe Sandisk makes some pretty decent mp3 players. I used to have one but I have an ipod nano now and its awesome cause it holds all the songs I need and I can carry it with me when I workout.

Yeah...I just went around to the "stores" here in my town, and, amazingly, Walmart didn't have it! So, I went to the local Exchange here on base and found a Sansa Clip 2GB one for her...not in red, like she wanted, but oh well. I can always take it back if I find a better one at Best Buy or something.

Lies. My phone doesn't get loud, but I can listen to music on it, and it can play for hours.

Sandisk is good, I hear. We just got one for my mother for xmas as well.

Sandisk isn't as polished or as retard friendly as iPods are.

If I were you I would just get her the iPod. More storage, and less time wasted for you having to explain things to her.

I've been using my Sandisk for the last 6 years (yup) without any issues, and with a good set of earphones, the sound quality is the same as that of an i* series. However, girls are generally a lot more attracted to the ipod because of the looks and the name, so I'd say go for it.

Yeah....I just need to find her another gift or something now...bought her that MP3 player, but I don't want to get her just that, ya know? The worst part? She's got plenty of perfume...she doesn't wear Jewelry....she think she's too fat for lingerie (I've tried getting her like four things in the past year, but she hasn't worn ANY of it yet)...I don't know what else to do? lol.

Then it's a good MP3 player. I bought it for my dad when it was on woot for $7. But it works really good. Plays music, pictures, videos, games. It's not as fancy as an Ipod. But if all she wants to do is listen to a limited ammount of songs and see the title, that's more than enough. No point in blowing a bunch of cash on something she doesn't really need. If she really get's into it, and decides she's gotta get something better. Then go for an Ipod. But you don't wanna buy something and then 2 months from now she doesn't even use it anymore.
