Holy crap, that's awesome. Seems like they'd lose money on processing a 10 cent credit card order though.

I don't get this whole thing... they surely loose a lot of money by selling these games that cheap...
Like, for a moment I was thinking that I would get trapped just like the 5 free games thingie, but it seems like it's completely legit...
Why are they doing this?

Because after a certain period of time, it makes sense to lower the price quite a lot to attract more customers. The amount of sales that'll generate in 24 hours will be worth it.
99% of the people who are anywhere near interested in playing Age of Empires 3 have already done so - either by buying it or pirating it. This move will compel quite a lot of people (including those who pirated it) to go out and buy it since there's no excuse not to buy it anymore.
Also, this is a one day only deal :) It'll go back to the regular price in 24 hours.

I bought it as well. I'm having trouble with the Games for Windows thing though. Every time I've tried to download AOE it crashes...

It doesn't cost them that much to make a transaction on your card. It's Microsoft. You are paying for a Digital Download, all it costs them is bandwidth. You get no CDs, no artwork, no shipping, handling, etc... just the game.

I wrote a thesis paper on this last year for a CS major class. Pretty much laid out why torrent is more economically sound than the current structure of distributing media.
