Hey, I'm just wondering if you can watch TV on your PC without having to plug it in a TV. I'm just owning a basic Acer Aspire. I've seen an ad about Eyetv for Macs, but since Macs blow, I was wondering if something similar was available for PC...

Define watch tv.

1. Hook a cable line from the wall into the computer and get a signal?
2. Run a cable from you cable box or sat box to your comp and play the video?
3. Stream the content from your tv to your pc across a network?

What I'm getting from your frenchie speak is that you will need to buy a TV Tuner. They come in all forms including PCI cards, USB dongle type things, etc. You plug it into your computer, then plug in some sort of source. Cable, Antenna, etc.

The ones I've always used were from hauppage http://www.hauppauge.com/. they have been around forever.

If there are specific shows your interested in you can probably go to the stations website to watch them when you want.

Well actually what I'm looking for (because I guess I can't say what I just said up there in english), I want to watch some channels via my laptop. For example, when there's a football or hockey match, Discovery Channel, SE (Movie channel), shits like that. I know Discovery Channel has all the episodes on its website, but I want to watch them live when I'm anywhere in my house or at school... any way?

The only prob is you'll need some kind of reception thing. Whether that be cable TV (the black coax cable), antenna, whateva. But yeah Hauppage has you covered.

for sports just go to ATDHE.net. Each day its updated with the sports and major shows for that day. Theres also 24/7 southpark and movie channels as well as the major news channels. I use it on the weekend to watch all my Bundesliga, Serie A, La Liga, and English Premier league. After that I just put on the many hockey games shown. Its a great site.

Hey I've got a new question though, I bought a TV and want to place it in my room. But there's actually no cable in my room to plug it in, so I can't watch shit... Any kind of router for cable or something exists?

you're going to need a 3-way cable splitter, which you can buy at most electronics stores that sell TVs, and you're going to need a long cable to run all the way to your room.

aside from that, hulu.com is great for watching TV through the internet. i also found this browser plugin called cooliris (www.cooliris.com) that will search the internet for TV shows, video clips, movies, photos, you name it. i just found it and haven't used it much, but it's pretty neat.

the 3-way splitter is like a router, except waaaaay less technical, very inexpensive, and it doesn't need any power.

Well, if you don't want to run the cable, you could always pick up a wireless/RF cable transmitter. The quality varies, depending on how far you're transmitting, and what the signal has to pass through (walls, breaker boxes, running microwaves, re-bar) to get from one point to the other. Still, it would be worth checking out. I've installed a few for some clients & they have usually worked out well when going from one room to another. Going from one side of a house to the other might not work so well though. Save your receipt...

You will still need some sort of tuner/capture card to convert the signal, if your laptop is what you plan on watching the video with. When I had a media center, I used XBMC to pull everything together--MythTV is also pretty cool.
