You could buy a pair of headphones than use the laptops internal mic...though yes sound quality is shit, still better than maybe the whole USB route....

Well if he uses a desktop and his laptop, a USB is probably a better option unless he has a nice soundcard on his PC. Having the same sounds and same sound positioning is really nice. I played on someones computer and they had their settings so fucked up compared to what I had that I hated playing.

Montreal wrote: I have a clip-on mic with the headset I use now, but I really don't like that whole concept. No one could hear me properly and it wouldn't stay on (that's how I dropped it in coffee). I actually have a pair of Zalman's right now and the sound quality is great but again, the mic is stupid. I'm just worried that if I go for something lower end (like the first link I posted) that I might regret not getting the superior sound quality. I never really play for more than 1-2 hours at a time now days, so comfort for 5+ hours of gaming isn't really an issue. Haha I will agree monty that the clip-on mic does get bothersome at times but I mean if I had to decide between a sub par set of cans with a mic and a awesome set of cans with a clip on I would prefer the awesome set. I may have a bias because a major secondary (almost primary) function of my headset is to listen to lossless quality music. That's just me, as a musician I prefer sound quality, but someone else may feel differently and hey thats ok too! Oh and my Audio Technica's are easily the MOST comfortable headsets I have ever worn, I can wear them for a whole day and not feel a thing. They apply 0 pressure to your head and cup your ears softer than a mom holding her newborn and they are extraordinarily lightweight but sturdy as hell. People have their preferences. Oh and there is a boom mic mod you can do to these headsets that is really easy to do, I'm just too lazy to do it :P

 Re: Good gaming headset.
I don't know where all this USB hate is coming from.
The logitech g35s are a fantastic, usb powered headset. I have no problems with them whatsoever, and the bass provided by them "rumbles your skull" as someone so kindly said of 3/8th jacks (I think that's what they are) in fact, on my laptop the USB/HDMI outputs are highly desired over the 3/8th jacks.
I refuse to listen to music played out of 3/8ths because it sounds like shit compared to my HDMI on my reciever/sound system, and I refuse to use the jacks to listen to music when I need to use headphones, because my g35s are far superior to any jack based headset I've ever used.
They were also cheap as hell when I bought them for $100. They're like 130 ish now I think..
EDIT: Mossy, my friend has those exact headphones. They're alright. You get what you pay for. He prefers my g35s when I let him use them. He occasionally has problems with the mic not working as well.

Mossy, just from what i've hear about soundcards(mostly on here) I think this is the one everyone refers to as the one you'de want to get. But i'm not sure if that's the right one exactly. I'm sure someone will comment on this saying yes or no. http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-Exp ... LFXTH6SQBD

Because my headset is going.. and i wanna know if i should buy a sound card to go along with that or not? Oh I dunno if he has that. I'll have to ask him, I don't think I ever saw him using it lol. Unfortunately, there's no place to go and try on all different kinds of headphones, but if you don't want to invest in a soundcard, and have little faith in the 3.5mm jacks (like me) the g35 has great sound, I use them for production, and a well decent mic. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-7-1-Chan ... 229&sr=8-1And they're $96 right now.

 Re: Good gaming headset.
I think MACS are EXCELLENT for audio, video, photo creation/editing/etc, but they aren't made for games. I think if games were tailored for Linux, it'd have a great chance against Windows.

Hey guys, just came across this today: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 76258&SID=It's going for $99, but use coupon code EMCYTZT180, and the rebate on the site, and it's down to $29. That's 70% savings yo.
