Yeah, the idea of steam is good, and they used to do things ok, but this whole overhaul with an older engine has really been gay as of late. I was always aprehensive towards the CZ to Source crossover back in the day, and man do I miss how simple CZ was. They just need to let this game die and move on.

Back when the WON network was still active, server owners didn't have to update if they didn't like the changes, and people didn't have to download the updated versions if they didn't want to either.

That's how I was to. I Pre Ordered Source, then when I installed it and played it for a day or 2 I thought it was over the top. My comp wasn't very good, so it seemed to hard. So I just stuck to CZ. Then quit for a few years. The played in our server the first day I played and got hooked lol.

Updates 9/10 of the times i log on..

That must be awful to have a game that isn't so outdated that the company abandons the game and still sells it with no hope of fixing glitches, adding new content, or helping the game stay active...

Shit I miss the 1.5 days. I distinctly remember having a large piece of paper FILLED with IPs of servers that I frequented. I miss WON... and the huge amount of customization that was available with 1.5 (custom maps, custom skins, etc.) and having everyone I went to school with playing the game. Good times.

And the rainbow crosshair ability gained by binding the mouse1 button to +attack;cl_crosshair_color (?) ### ### ### etc... although I'm pretty sure there was another cvar I used that allowed me to scroll through all of the available standard colors with each button press. I also liked being able to toggle between black/white crosshairs which you find neither of in CSS.

Isn't custom rgb crosshair colors added in beta right now? Along with width and something else I think.

I haven't been following the beta but I could check it out to see. They've been adding a lot of things that were stripped from the game during the HL1 to Source transition.
