Masskrugstemmen is German and translates to holding a 5 1/2lb beer (1 liter mug or mass) straight out parallel to the ground without bending your back or elbow. You also cannot spill any beer, tip the glass or use two hands. The person with the longest time wins.

So we went to our local drinking spot which happens to be a German style bar. They have this contest and for $20 you get some beer, a mug and you get in the contest. I enter thinking it would be fun and ended up winning. I beat our 10 other dudes with a time of 5:30. The judge said that I was the only person he ever seen get to the 5 minute mark without shaking or losing height.

I was invited back to compete in the finals for a trip for 2 to New York to compete again. Last Saturday I showed up for the finals and against 20 other finalists from the past weekends showed up. I though for sure I was going to get smoked. Guys were in shape and a couple even talked about training for this shit. I was drinking my ass off before the competition started. That may of helped. I ended up beating the top guy by a solid minute with a time of 7:20 winning a paid trip to New York to compete at the national finals at their Oktoberfest during the German-American Steuben parade in Central Park. They are paying for plane tickets, hotel & food. I will be in the parade itself and then competing just after the parade with the rest of the day to get blasted on their $.

If I win in New against the 6 or so other competitors from across the country I get a paid trip for 2 to Germany for the real Oktoberfest to compete. Did some research and found that I currently have the 2nd best time in the country but there are 2 more brewery's that need to submit their times.

Anyone near Central Park on September 25th that wants to get tanked let me know. I'll be there for the weekend with a flight back to Michigan on Sunday. Saturday is going to be my party day and I plan on being in Central Park for most of it. Might take a trip to Ground Zero & Times Square if I can keep sober.

5 minutes?! Jesus! i probably wouldn't get past 2. My mother got me a masskrug from the Hofbrauhaus in Munich. nothin like a beer mug that holds 3 12oz beers. I love that F*CKIN thing.

I live an hour and a half from the city. I could take the train in.... hmmmmm...

Its going to be a F*CKING blast. I can't stand polka but after a few beers its amazing stuff. I'll polka your eyes out. I have a pretty hefty Mass collection from years past. My ultimate dream (and possibly our honeymoon) is Oktoberfest in Munich. If I win and they pay for the trip then its even better.



7:20 was my final time. My arm still F*CKING hurts 3 days later.

If you go to Oktoberfest make sure you sneak on down to Beerfest! DAS BOOOOOOOOOOT!

I just realized from that pic that you have a nice cold beer in your hand and you are supposed to hold it straight out in front of your face.. AND NOT DRINK IT! With times like 7+ mins in some locations they better get your ass a new beer! Doesn't look too bright or hot where you were though.

During the last run it was warm and super muggy. I started to sweat my ass off at the 7 minute mark. Once it was over I drank the beer and asked the guy running the competition jokingly if I could have a refill because mine was so warm from hold it for so long. The dumb ass filled it up again. LEWL 3 free liters of beer that day (the second place dude bought me one after my second)

I was drunk as shit that night. I pounded 3 24 ounces of Hofbrau before the shit even started. I also found out that I am getting a bunch of free shirts and passes to the Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth MI and New York.

LOL, the guy running it prob didn't care about giving you the free refill, he probably has some monetary incentive for more people drinking that beer so a free one to the winner wouldn't hurt him. Pretty nice result of going drinking by getting a free trip to NY to ride in a parade and compete for a trip that you have a realistic shot of winning(tell your wife you gotta drink more to win! rofl)and go to the real Oktoberfest in Germany to drink, compete, and have fun there. Good luck and have a blast training for your event in NY, and don't forget to have fun in that parade, because unless there are some titties bouncing up and down on your float with you sitting on a throne with a crown it'll get boring if it's long enough. Take more pics when you go and even more if you win!

can you buy Hofbrau outside of a bar?

I get it all the time at the party store and I have seen it sold in a few other places. Just gotta watch out for how old it is. Pull a bottle out and look for flakes floating in the bottom, flakes = shitty tasting beer.

6 pack is about $10 though.
