I'm getting one of them and I don't know which one to get. Anyone have either? What do you like/dislike about it?

Post Re: HTC Evo VS DroidX
i recommend the droid x. dont have either, but since the evo is the first 4g phone AND 4g is not standardized i see it being a huge waste of money. if u really want a 4g phone, wait until 4g become standardized. the droid x has the best hardware specs i have seen in a phone to date. i might also suggest waiting a little bit, the dell streak should be coming out very soon and it has a 5" screen. another problem with the evo 4g is that, from what i have heard, 4g service isnt availible in most places, and its sprint, which isnt close to as good as AT&T or Verizon.

Yeah, I was leaning towards the DroidX, but a guy here at Comcast where I work came in with his HTC Evo and nutted himself over it showing me a bunch of stuff on it. Not really worried about 4g, doubt it will even pick up 4g here since AT&T doesn't even have 3g here or anywhere close to here when I had them last year.

Where do you live? If you have 4g coverage where you'll be, the speed is night and day compared to 3g.

Battery life on em SUCKS though. If you have long stretches away from the power source, stay away from the evo. Not sure about the droid, haven't seen one or talk to anyone with it.

The battery life on all of them are about the same. I've been researching for a couple hours and I'm gonna get the Evo even though there aren't any 4g spots probably within 100 miles. The bill is going to be almost $20 cheaper with any mobile-to-mobile and nights/weekends free. With the amount of cell phones I call I probably won't even use half of 450 to landlines since almost everyone uses a cell phone 24/7. Now that jailbreaking the phone is completely legal, I can do that and use my phone as a hotspot for my new laptop I just got.

My cousin has the evo and it is sweet. His 4g is super fast and the phone can be used as a router if you pay extra. Tons of apps and the layout is really attractive. The phone is on the large side but that is a plus when watching sprint tv ect. Battery life can suck if you run all the added features that make it awsome. If you go with the evo get a car charger if your ride doesnt have a usb port in it. Other than the battery I cant think of any other cons for the evo.

just so u know, jailbreaking legal, but only to use apps and services that are free or gotten through legitimate means. idk if sprint says hotspot apps other than theirs are against there policy, but it might be, which would make it illegal. not that any 1 ever cares tho.

Go Droid X, trust me the Evo has a ton of problems just do a quick google search and you'll see forums flooded with complaints and problems. Droid X is probably one of the greatest of the Android phones on the market atm.

jailbreaking/unlocking/etc is legal but that won't change most behaviors of companies bent on putting a stop to it. firmware updates that brick hacked phones, etc. There will still be the rat race/tango dancing that went on before;just that now they can't sue you or the makers of the jailbreak software for it.

idk, if jailbreaking is legal now, i wonder if it is legal or not for them to fix these problems. also, apple said jailbreaking will still violate the warranty, which sounds like it should be illegal.

nah, it's like the free speech argument on n00bfest. people come to play on OUR servers, we can ban them even though the US constitution provides free speech. they make that argument and we laugh at them, because we know that the law does not extend to our private slice of heaven.

same with warranty. people now legally have the right to do all this shit with their devices, but that in no way forces the service providers to support the devices the same way they would with un-modified.

Im sittin here with my G2 droid AKA Mytouch 3g. I took it off the charger Thursday morning, have sent 300+ texts and used 250 minutes since and I still am at 46% Batt. Just keep your Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS etc. off unless you need and it keep your screen brightness low...luckily there's a widget on my screen that lets my control all the toys on the fly...that's the biggest contributor to Batt. life...Droid is where its at, you choose how you spend your battery.

HTC is better then Motorola so that's one plus. any issues with the evo have been worked out and froyo is being sent out everyday now. Sprint service is sometimes spotty but they are working on it. If i were to go verizon i'd prolly go with the Droid Inc a tad smaller then the X but feels just right and is just as good. If spint is your choice then you want the Evo obv. If att is your choice the iPhone 4 is best followed by the Samsung Captivate. Anymore questions let me know i'm pretty up to date on all cell phone stuff. Android and Ios are my stronger areas.
