Re: getting a new AT&T phone (possibly)
yeah man get the captivate but also keep tabs AT&T might be losing exclusivity to the iPhone this week therefore AT&T might be revamping its Android lineup within the month. I am expecting to see the Dell Streak within the month and if it does come out I might return my Captivate and replace it with the Streak just because a 5 inch screen is interesting to me :P. Other interesting things is google up the AT&T secret box in stores. There's a weird locked box in the middle of all the AT&T stores and noone, not even the managers, know what's in it. They are also losing those iPhone fancy stands and displays. So whatever they're planning it must be big. So keep an eye out r3xx, besides that the Samsung Captivate is definitely the way to go for now and even if something else comes out in the future the Captivate will easily last till the end of your contract especially when Froyo comes out and hopefully Gingerbread after that. :D Any more info just ask

ok, the link or 2 i read just said tablet. glad to hear it is a phone as well (kinda pointless w/o the phone part IMO). $300... its a possibility, since im waiting until 2/2/2011 anyway, i will definitely keep up on its reviews.

Re: getting a new AT&T phone (possibly)
Have you looked at the Motorola BackFlip? I'm using that phone and I think it's a decent phone. When I got it, it was $200 with a $100 mail in rebate. It's a low end smartphone with access to the Android marketplace and one of the largest keyboards you'll find on a phone. I've been using it for a few months and haven't encountered any problems. I'd stay away from the Streak until the next generation. This is Dell's first phone and there's bound to be some screwups. Also in case you haven't heard, Dell royally screwed up recently. http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/30/docu ... e_engadgethttp://www.switched.com/2010/07/23/bad- ... e_engadget

What features are you looking for anyways? idk, i will have to go into an att and try the backflip, but i have heard bad things about it and about motoblur. http://www.pcworld.com/article/191036/m ... ience.html2 quotes from: http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/arti ... 347&p=2449Just as with the Cliq, battery life is horrid. The screen itself does not have any performance issues. However, because Motoblur and the user interface itself can be sluggish, it would be easy to blame the display for poor performance. Rest assured, it's not the screen. It's the operating system. quotes from: http://www.wired.com/reviews/product/pr_moto_backflipOh, and about that rear touch pad. Be careful. It's way too easy to send the cursor somewhere you don't want to, or jump forward or backward a page. It's sensitive . 528-MHz processor sucks One of the weakest Android offerings to date. Replaces Android's Google search with Yahoo. Underpowered and responds at a glacial pace while multitasking. Filled with AT&T-branded bloatware. Flimsy battery door. Screen is too small for its icon-heavy UI. yea, definitely a PoS. the phone only excels at serving one type of user: the mobile-tweeting, Facebook-feeding, geo-tagging oversharer. which i am not.

You've ripped on the backflip, but yet you haven't named ONE thing that you need to do that isn't supported by the phone. All the ATT bloatware can be solved by rooting the phone. Yes the proc is slow, but you haven't demonstrated a need for anything better.

Re: getting a new AT&T phone (possibly)
1) ok, the processor is slow so it cant multitask nearly as well as other devices.
2) i have a wireless-N router in my house and the backflip doesnt support wireless-n
3) i want a user interface that works well, and is more like the standard android interface than some shitty "social-networking" crap
4) if i let my friend borrow my phone he can see all my facebook stuff, emails, and texts if he just goes to the homepage.
5) rear touch pad?? wtf is that??
6) 3.1 inches with 320 x 480 pixels isnt even close to other android phones, a bigger screen is always better.
7) battery life is horrid. 12 hours of battery life MAX (with tons of tweaking and probably shutting a lot of stuff off)!!! and it can deplete in under 7, yea, id like a phone to last longer than that. i can have my iphone on for almost 2 or 3 days with out a charge (w/o 3g or wifi), something comparable would be nice.
is that enough?

Re: getting a new AT&T phone (possibly)
1) ok, the processor is slow so it cant multitask nearly as well as other devices. How fast does a processor need to be in order to satisfy you? 1GHz? 2GHz? 3GHz? How much multitasking can you do on a phone anyways? 2) i have a wireless-N router in my house and the backflip doesnt support wireless-n If having native wireless N support is important, use this list http://www.wi-fi.org/search_products.ph ... ifications[]=41 You don't need wireless N support to work with a wireless N router. All wireless N routers support 802.11 G at a minimum and all phones with wifi will support 802.11 G 3) i want a user interface that works well, and is more like the standard android interface than some shitty "social-networking" crap Any android phone from ATT will be nerfed. Root the phone and install a vanilla build of android if it means that much to you. 4) if i let my friend borrow my phone he can see all my facebook stuff, emails, and texts if he just goes to the homepage. You can removes those widgets from the home page or move them to another page. There's 5 "desktops" that are available. The default settings is to include the facebook status and messages on the main desktop. 5) rear touch pad?? wtf is that?? It's a little touchpad on the back of the screen when you flip the KB open. It allows you to move around on the screen without touching the front of the screen. 6) 3.1 inches with 320 x 480 pixels isnt even close to other android phones, a bigger screen is always better. You get what you pay for. Right now, $50 for backflip vs $200 for a high end android phone. BULLSHIT. I can get 48 hours on my phone between charges with light usage. With typical usage, I can get around through a day. I think the 7 hours or 12 hours is under constant usage. is that enough?

How much multitasking can you do on a phone anyways? yea, 1 GHz would be nice. with the ability for a 1GHz chip in a phone, why wouldnt i buy that. plus, the reviews i read say that if u have more than a few apps open it starts to get sluggish. just check the links i posted, i think the wired.com link said that. 2) i have a wireless-N router in my house and the backflip doesnt support wireless-n If having native wireless N support is important, use this list http://www.wi-fi.org/search_products.ph ... ifications.[]=41 You don't need wireless N support to work with a wireless N router.
