 Sports Fans
Just put up a new site for sports fans: http://www.fandemonium.netIt's pretty raw right now, should start looking pretty over the next week or two. Basically it's a news aggregation service for sports fans. It finds news out there on the web regarding the team you are interested in following and displays all the articles in a single list so you don't need to surf through a dozen sites looking for new articles every day. You can rank/filter the sources and submit additional sites for it to crawl if you don't see articles from your favorite sites in the list. Check it out if you are into sports. It's built on a crawler I wrote for my personal use to follow news on my own teams. Saves me alot of time clicking around sites so I thought it might be something other people would like as well.

Any chance of getting MLS in there for next season? Very good idea...it's easy to add new leagues, all the HTML is autogenerated so I just need to setup a config file for the league and enter the teams and off it goes. Will add that by the end of the week.

Thanks Taz...I never really thought about launching a site around it until a buddy of mine was over and saw the link list in my browser. He asked what site I got it from and after I showed him the crawler one thing led to another and we threw up the site in a few hours, lol. The sort box is actually really cool...it's built dynamically in java script based on the sources we have seen for a given team. I also added the checkbox to each source so you can turn them on and off since sometimes the results have bs articles from some site or other that the user could care less about. When you make changes to sort/filter options they are persisted in a cookie that is maintained in the client side javascript, so there is no need for the server to handle anything but plain HTML, which means we can handle a ton of load with the most basic of hardware.

Definitely a bet I would not take being that I am a senile old man who would forget my own name if my wife stopped writing it on the label of my underwear, :)

 Re: Sports Fans
Here's a test I did: Since I'm about to become a Portland Timbers MLS season ticket holder, I know that there's a "big" news item relating to the Timbers and the Houston Dynamo today. So since Timbers isn't up yet, I clicked on Houston, and about 5 articles down was the article I was looking for. One thing I'd like to see is a date/time stamp on each article so I knew how fresh the story was. So far that's it, because I know that you're going to re-style the thing.
