 So formatting sucks....
I decided to format my main hdd since I'm moving soon and it's well over do. Usually this shit is easy for me but for multiple reasons it took me an entire day to figure out how to install Vista again on my raid array. Needless to say I've been very aggravated the past 36 hours but now I have a fresh install of Vista.
What's amazing is that I have barely installed anything and it's already sitting at over 50GB. Who the F*CK decided that an OS should be over 50 GB???????
Jesus I'm glad I'm finely going to learn Linux....

Oh crap, I'm about to reformat with this too for the same reasons. That sucks, I'm glad you gave me the heads-up that it is more of an ordeal than is usual.

 Re: So formatting sucks....
At least it's not as bad as figuring out right after the install started that Windows 7 x64 needs 64 bit drivers for your dvd drive before it would install anything (and most drives don't have 64 bit drivers), and that you have to get the ISO, use Microsoft's tool to make put everything in a flash drive and boot from it to be able to install it. It'll really suck when you have only one pc. Thankfully, I had my laptop to rescue me.

Some dvd drives do not have any 64 bit drivers at all. No other x64 OS had this problem :) I am glad you guys did not have problems, but it was bad enough (and common) that Microsoft had to release a program just to open up the ISO of the OS, put everything inside a flash drive and make it bootable and work without issues. Just Imagine your OS just beginning to install, and asking you for 64 bit drivers of your drive (which is being used by the OS to install). For a company/institution it would be devastating. It's because of such issues that many stay away from anything 64 bit (including my entire university), even though they have many testing labs. Also, you can't update everything before installing a new OS if you are doing a fresh install. It has nothing to do with a pc being 64 bit. For a 64 bit OS to work properly, what you need is a processor that is 64 bit, and compatible drivers. For an operating system, it is critical to have drivers included for the most essential devices.

I've been having a problem, my dvd drive reads and burns anything that comes or goes on a DVD-RW but it will not read or burn cd-rw's...any suggestions? Is that related to the driver problem? Because I have not installed any drivers.

 Re: So formatting sucks....
I'm not sure Mindless, because in my case, once I installed the OS with my flash drive, the dvd drive worked fine with all media (without me updating the drivers). It's definitely possible that it's a driver/firmware issue.

 Re: So formatting sucks....
So I have Vista up and running and the final tally is 80GB for this F*CKING pos OS
i shouldnt complain cuz i never had any problems with it but its feels like such a waste of space for something that doesnt need to be so big

 Re: So formatting sucks....
7 installs completely, to the desktop, in 15 minutes and isn't that big. i LOVE 7. I never had any problems with Vista either really, but vista's indexing service would thrash my hdd for like 5 minutes after boot up. i hated that, among other things. 7 is so much less resource-hungry. there's no reason to pay for it, either. i had 7 ultimate 64bit before 7 was publicly released...
i'd d/l 7 and reinstall with it, but thats just me...

Even if the pirated OS was a bad copy, the worst that can happen is need to reformat with something else. You just need to know what to look for when pirating shit.
