It was probably one of the worst $209 investments I've ever made. I find it is extremely hard to play video games with a giant dick in your ass.

lol, I have not carried my clubs around a golf course for years...that was golf back in the 80's maybe when they used to charge extra for the cart. These days carts are included because the courses all figured out they made more money by increasing the pace of play so they could get more golfers out during the day.

Heck, I don't even carry my golf bag to the club house...I get the damn cart and drive it out to my car to load/unload. Added bonus is that with the cart you can take a cooler full of beer out with you so you don't even have to wait for the beer bitch to come by. So basically the golf course is the one place where its fully acceptable to roll around behind the wheel completely buzzed with an open container even, :)

People wonder why country clubs are all stuck up.

real golf is a "club" game. as in, you have to get over a bunch of learning curves to enjoy it & be good/comfortable. once you get over the "hump" you're in the club, and it feels goooooood. being in the club entitles you to laugh at people who still aren't over it.

you have to get over the dress codes at different courses. you'll literally be turned away if you show up to my course in anything denim or non-collared. my course is considered "casual" because you can wear shorts or cargoes/non slacks.
you have to get over the course & clubhouse etiquette which is tightly enforced. unless you're playing with someone who knows the ropes, you'll be laughed at or yelled at, or even worse some asshole is bound to call in the officials to either remove you or put pressure on you.
you have to get over that most players are good ol' boys so if you're not a clean shaven white guy or a cute chick they won't give you the time of day. unless you're playing at a shitty public course with one patch of green grass, this is the case. nice courses invite white inbred rich-wannabe assholes.
you have to get over the fact that hitting a tiny ball with a long stick is very difficult and takes years to get anywhere near decent
you have to get over the fact that muscling the ball does not make it go farther in most cases; to shoot like a man you have to relax your hips, shoulders, & wrists LIKE A WOMAN

basically i F*CKING love it. a few things I had to do to get myself over the "skills" hump:
1) Leave the driver at home for a full year. Biggest club I hit that year was a 4 iron. I did just fine.
2) Take a real lesson from a teacher who subscribed to Hogan
3) Read Hogan's Fundamentals, and bring the book with me wherever I go to get back to basics. Looking at the pictures is enough to remind me what I'm doing wrong most of the time.
4) Keep playing. Because for the first year it's basically not fun. IN my case, it was the first several years before I figured out that I'd need to take a lesson or two.

Golf just sounds boring to me lol i mean u go around hit a ball around 9-18holes (depending on course and time) and well it takes all god damn day pretty much i went with my uncle i got to drive the cart around that was about the only fun part about golf i had lol i didnt play tho because i didnt want to nor had clubs for me but we were out there from like 8am-1pm really? It gets pretty boring after awhile so i dont see how people can go to the PGA and things and watch people golf for hrs on end. But its a game that takes time and some skill to get a ball to where u want it...Mini golf is better :P and i dont get the concept of disc golf nor do we have any courses around my area.

I've been playing golf since I was about 9 years old (my Dad is an avid golfer) and there really is no feeling like hitting the perfect drive right down the middle of the fairway or cozying up to the cup with your approach shot. Golf is a hard sport to become good at, like Dirk said, but the reward is well worth the hard work and patience in my book.

Sure there are pricks out there that are going to act like rich assholes, but you have to remember that golf is a game with a lot of history (the modern day golf we play has been around since the 12th century), so you have to respect the fact that people take it seriously.

Me neither. The people who go to watch PGA stuff live are more groupies than anything in my book. Most golfers I know would never go to one of those things; they'd rather play.

It's just one of those things with a high barrier to entry (chasing a ball around for 18 holes is exactly what i thought before I got into it)-- but when you're in, it's so sweet.

Ya, pretty much what dirk said. I was a Hogan addict for the longest time...manged to get down to an 8 handicap when I was playing or hitting the range 2-3 times a week regularly, but these days I am hitting a 15 since I just can't get out as much as I would like to.

I seriously screwed my back about 5 years ago and my golf game went in the crapper until last year when I stumbled across the Peak Performance Golf site and ordered Don Trahan's videos. He teaches a limited turn vertical swing that takes all the torque off the lower back and I swear I have never hit longer and straighter than I do now, it was absolutely ridiculous how effective his technique is.

I've taken a video class where they show you your swing after they film it in slow-mo. That was pretty cool. Other than that I like to read GOLF magazine from time to time, they always have good articles for special shots to practice and how to adjust for different lies.
