Ok, I have been working with PC's for a long time, but I need some advice guys.
I have an HP Pavillion elite, 07-08 series.
During the Vista bootup transition screen ( the one that has the loading bar followed by the windows logo right before turning into desktop) there is a long, high pitch beep ( about 6-10 seconds) just one long continous BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEp! then Vista loads.

However.....I see no problems. my hardware runs fine, there are no error messages on bootup, and nothing seems to be fried out.
I tried windows restore back to a couple days....nothing changed. The hardware Beep continues on bootup.

If anyone knows anything about this, what it means, what could be fucked up, I would REALLY appreciate it.

Typically, software won't beep at you like that. Usually beep codes are caused by a hardware issue. You need to go to HP support (good luck, hp support blows dick). With any luck, they will be able to tell you what the beep code means. You might even try this new thing on the internet that I've been hearing so much about called Google. I hear it's all the rage.

HP support is actually pretty good. I'm not sure what you're talking about. I had troubles with my laptop and got on with an online chat woman. They had my stuff to me within two days.

The event logging system may be running by the time you get the beep. Check that first if you haven't already. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

Then check all the different types of events.



That being said, I literally forgot the name of the OS between WinXP and Win7. It's Vista! Thanks for the reminder!

The thing I usually do is select the most specific sentence from the log error, select the whole thing, highlight it, copy it, then paste it into google with quotes around it. 9 times out of 10 you'll see what others have posted about it and find a fix.

Vista denied a direct copy, but it does appear to be port i8042 , gonna research the port and read forums on web, thanks for the help dirk/kat , if you guys find anything on solutions for the error i will be off and on checking n00b forum

I depend on vendor support as part of my job. I sent a laptop to HP to have a screen replaced that they told me was covered by the warranty and will be no problem. When it takes 5 weeks and ends up costing aprox. $500 to replace the screen. That's too much time, and time is money. My company will never buy another HP. We use Dell (have about 50 laptops and 40 desktops) and have never had any problems with them.

Everyone has a horror story about one of the major vendors. HP just happens to be mine. And in this case it cost them our business.

Update, ran some Reg scans ( same ones a tried earlier) and the beeps stoped

However....the errors recorded in system logs continue, and now a new error associated with google chrome appears to be affecting system as well...... goddamn vista i think im just gonna format

Yup Win7 magically fixes shit, and I'm not even half kidding. I'm not kidding also about forgetting the name windows vista-- it's such a horrid OS compared to XP and 7.

Yah Vista fails at being an OS i hated it alot ^.^ but also Goodkat why use google when you can use noobfest.com? we got techies and all sorts of stuff here and usually post are pretty quick better than some random forum. But atleast the beep is fixed also i know how to fix the error with google chrome....Get firefox problem solved ^.^

agreed agreed agreed agreed. Use Firefox all the time. Used Chrome once and I got a gigantic virus that would make the comp go bluescreen the second windows tried to load.Firefox ftw.

Is the beep from the little speaker on your mobo? If so then check what bios your running and depending on the bios theres a beep code. I know for AwardBios if there is a long continuous beep it means that your ram is probably not seated right or there is something wrong. Also it could mean your cpu is overheating so check those out.

Personally I like Firefox for the plugins, I use Selnium and GreaseMonkey and a few others for doing some automated testing.

That being said it is now the most insecure browser on the market, however, followed closely by Safari. IE is surprisingly a more secure option these days.

have you checked the CMOS battery? if not like they said above, make sure any hardware you have is seated right and is compatable with the motherboard. double check the cabling from the powersupply to the board and all periphial devices.

had a similar problem before and found that i had my hdd seated as a slave instead of a master.
