WOW guys, lots of stuff in here since this afternoon. I would love to live in Oregon and Idaho too. Also on the list of beautiful places with mountains to climb and ski down. Gotta have mountains, I miss them, FL is FLLAAAAAAAAAATTT. We live in the hilliest part right down the middle and it's still just hills.

N00bmeat sometime in the near future...go to gaming center and pwn all night and drink and raise hell? Who's up for it, FL n00bs?

I think with the whole beautiful places and Mountains to climb and ski down just narrowed it all down. If you like big cities then Portland is the place to be. If you like the country, go 20 miles from downtown portland. 2 of the best ski lodges in the world are an hour or less drive away and always in view with year round skiing. Hicking is either in the same place or even closer. You get to deal with every type of weather you could want or hate. I guarantee that if you want something Portland has it, and if you don't want something Portland also has it because it has everything. Hell wich is probably why most major tours of any sort put Portland as one of there main stops!

But everyone has there own opinions on what places they like. I've been to most of the places being talked about(All of the Northwest, NJ/NY City, Cali, TX, but not florida yet.) They are all amazing places with different things to offer. But after hearing all the bragging about places to go in all these places I was highly dissapointed. I found nothing better than the Northwest. All the food joints(like In-N-Out, White Castle Etc.) all sucked ass. the only place with something amazing to Offer was New Jersey and New York City and the Theme Parks around LA. Other than that, it's all here. Wouldn't move anywhere else if my life depended on it cuz my life started here and sure as hell will end here.

Dude, the crap on a bun you get at those cruddy grease burger joints is not food. What you need is real food...and real food is BBQ, and it ain't real BBQ unless it's Texas BBQ.

You have not lived until you have sat down and busted your gut on the all you can eat family style meal at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, or pulled a fat pile of brisket and ribs out of the massive smoking pits at Cooper's in Llano. Black's down in Lockhart is probably the oldest and one of the best in the state as well.

Hell you can spend an entire vacation just visiting BBQ joints out here, now that is freaking heaven if you ask me.

As far as night life goes there is not anywhere in the world that holds a candle to Austin. Live music and cheap booze is everywhere every night, and the musicians that come out of this place are some of the best in the world. Stevie Ray Vaughn got started at Antone's and Janis Joplin cut her teeth at Threadgill's just to name a few.

The film industry is big here too...lots of stars have residences in Austin and the SXSW Film Fstival is world renowned. We also have the ACL music festival and several other smaller events every year. There is a reason this place is referred to as the music capital of thee world.

The Texas hill country is absolutely awesome for outdoor activities, and the highland lakes are freaking sweet.

If you want to see what a place is really all about then you should look at more than just theme parks and fast food joints.

Ya The BBQ is one of the things I was saying "They all have something different to offer." A lot of my family lives in Austin and all over cali. So we went to a lot of different places over the many different times i've been there. The BBQ is REALLY good. But there are things like that here. Just not quite as many and not as world famous. Just one of the main things people brag about for Cali is In-N-Out being the best fast food burgers and they're horrible.

Ya there's quite a bit of actors and such from out of this area as well. Mel Gibson owns a vacation house about 10 miles from my house on Prune Hill(A really ritzy area.) Also a lot of NBA players own houses on the Columbia river, a few miles from me. But i wasn't saying that there main stop here was because they live here. It's because of the things we have to offer aside from food(wich we have plenty of.) It's more of an outdoor enthusiats gettaway. Outside of the big city there are major national parks historic areas and such that Texas can not offer(meaning not the same types.) There is no real place to start explaining what it has ya know? Just like down there or any other amzing gettaway places. You'de have to narrow down what types of things you like. Or else the list goes on for DAYS, and you'de never hear the end of it! But this is definatley a little off the subject lol. Who knows maybe eventually there will be a thread about people interested in what certain locations have to offer.

Do you wanna make out some time, bro?

Also: don't forget City Market in Luling. Best friggin sausage in the world. F*CK Elgin, for real.

Oh yeah, and if you love beer, this is one of the best places to live in the world. There are only a few other cities that compare (like Denver or Portland) to Austin's beer selection. We've got 4-5 brewpubs in Austin and more opening this year. We've got Live Oak brewing -- the brewery that makes the HIGHEST rated Hefeweizen in the world. Yeah. Texans beat the Germans at making their own style. Eat a knob, deutchbags! We've got Independence Brewery, 512 Brewing, BlReal Ale Brewing, and Shiner all either in or within 50 miles of Austin. We've got Cirlce Brewing, Jester King brewery, Hops and Grains, and a handful of other microbreweries opening up within the next year or so. If you love beer, bbq, live music and the outdoors... Austin is one place you'll never get bored. EVER.

I was born here and I swear to all I hold dear that I'll die here.

Ya I don't drink for reasons other than not liking it, but Austin is my second choice as far as living goes. If I could have a vacation home anywhere that would be the place for sure. Austin is the only place that has a BMX community that compares to the Northwest. Also they both have a lot of things to offer that most places don't. If ya like donuts we've got the best lol. Voodoo is the shit! There's only 2 of them and there both in Portland. If you ever come here try it out. The next time I go there i'll have to ask of some ideas on these forums as far as vacations go. I tried a few places my aunts took me to in Austin for BBQ's, but I can't remember what they were called, but it was soo good.

Some of the BBQ shit we have here is pretty damn good as well. Just not the same as there. One place I don't know if you have there is a place called Busters BBQ. From a couple of guys that moved here from Texas to make sure we know what real BBQ tastes like lol. But they have expanded a lot so I don't know were they have them at. But there's a place called Tennessee Red's Barbecue Company, and it's REALLY good. But like you said it's not the same as Texas, cuz you've got that original BBQ atmosphere!

I just looked up stats about Portland (sorry Gman and others, but Gr33ny has to go where there is a lot of theater that's actually HIRING, and Oregon is thru I.A.T.S.E which he belongs to, stagehand union [looked that up too]) and it looks freakin AMAZING. Like, OMG amazing, all the stuff we like and none we don't, well, he'd like it to be warmer, but I showed him lovely city and mountain pics and he liked that a lot. Anything you can tell me more about Portland, PM me, seriously.

lol Gman...maybe if you buy me a brisket, :)

I was not born here, but I definitely got here as fast as I could. Hell I got alot of Texan in me though...I am a direct descendant of Sam Houston on my mother's side.

We need to go do 6th street sometime man...I have a feeling we can find all kinds of trouble down there.

Sacrilege!!! Them weren't Texans...Texans don't move out, they just take off for a spell.

Seriously though, I know its cool up there...quite literally actually, hehe. I spent a year up in the Northwest myself...could not get used to all the rain and the winters are bitter cold, but it was nice and green.

lived in dallas /Ft. worth for about 5 years.

best texas BBQ ever was a place called angelos of HWY 199 ( jackboro) just outside of Ft Worth. also one of the best beer pubs with the most beers in texas i was at was a place called the flying saucer.

i live in portland now, and have for the past 10 years. by far the most beatiful state on the west coast. from mountain to shore, this place is jam packed with outdoor activities, a laid back experience, and a its a big town....it is not a big city. comming from one of the worlds largest metropolis' you are not going to convince me that portland will ever be anything then a big town.

is it a fun place. F*CK yea.

Since I've only been to NY and NJ I'll tell you this. You haven't eaten good food until you've eaten at Jose Tejas. They have such quality food for extremely cheap prices, but you have to wait at least an hour and half in line to get a table.
