Well today we picked him up from Portland International Airport. Kid looks savage. The stories he has make Costa Rica sound like a horrible place. The reason he made the girl leave home was because it was to hard for him to defend both of there lives on a regular basis. Tourist life there is amazing but it is a struggle to live as a local. Hiding your wallet at night is the least of your worries to be honest. He says there were countless times were locals would try to rape the girl he was with. The friends he made were part of a drug cartel. So when one of them would F*CK up on a sale they would vannish meaning they were taken into the jungle and never came back. 4 of his friends vannished. When he was selling coke they would send him acrost town with a backpack full of drugs to meet people that may just kill him for what he's got. The friends you have don't care if you die, as long as they make there money and live to see another day. One of the guys that tried to rape his girl got beaten nearly to death with a rock after he stabbed one of the people defending the girl with a machete. The police tried to have sex with her because they thought she was a local girl(most of the local girls prostitue themselves to make money.) At 5 every morning you wake up to howling monkeys wich are impossible to sleep through. There are beatles called screaming beatles there, and 3 of them can be heard throughout a whole town because they are so loud. Sometimes he would spend days coming back to a tree waiting for a certain piece of fruit to fall off of a tree, then when it was nerly about to fall he'd have to fight the squirrels the size of groundhogs for them. Inbetween 5-6AM as the sun rises the temp goes from 75 - 95+ degrees wityh nearly 100% humidity. The moon is upside down, so it looks like the mouth to a smiley face. He said it was an experience that gives him a new outlook on life, and nothing can scare him anymore. the town he lived in was apparently the most dangerous city in Costa Rica, but it's the only place he could make money off tourists. The stories are endless. At this point nothing would supprise me. The first site we got of him made us think he came back from hell. Can't believe my best friend went through so much in such a short time. The bottoms of his feet are one solid scab because in the last robbery they stole everything he owned. Other than his underwear. He had to find clothes on a beach to use and that's what he showed up in. Hell the people he called his friends said they would kill him if he tried to leave. So he spent 38 hours in the airport waiting for his plane. F*CK Costa Rica!

On the good side, when he showed up today we fed him what he says is the best meal he's eever eaten in his entire life (A large baconator Meal from Wendy's.) Gave him a place to stay until he get's back on his feet. My friend gave him his $1700 bike to get him back into the sport he loves so he could build muscle. Gave him a bunch of pretty much brand new clothes, shoes etc. Takin him snowboarding in a couple days! Gave him a haircut, but left a rosta tail thing the rostafarians gave him while he was down there.(Just his hairweaved into a rat tail with rubberbands covering it wich are rosta.)

I'm very relieved as of today :) Also extremely excited to be able to chill with him again. It's a long message but if I told even a quarter of his stories it would have been much longer!

I mean there are a lot more good places in Costa Rica if you have a lot of money while you're there. But if you have no money or place to go you have to live like a local. Then it is a horrible place. Tourists don't even know what it's like unless they are put in that type of situation. Then it really opens your eyes to the fact that it's not a paradise like you'de originally think. He stayed around the Montezuma area. The people he was with slept in hammocks holding machetes fearing the worst every night. Doesn't seem like a lifestyle i'de like to be involved in. I'm amazed he made it back in one piece. It's like a Jungle version of the mafia down there. But instead of digging a hole a couple hundred yards off the road in the desert, you can just bring em out into the jungle and let the wildlife do the rest. A Jaguar is bound to find the remains and take care of them. The cops are crazy there. They ride around on some OLD school dirtbikes in pairs(like in all the old movies in oriental countries were all you see is shitty motorcyles everywhere.) But I wish the squirrels here looked like they do there. All dark brown with a black stripe down there back and there eyes are totally white. He told me about his bus ride through the jungle from Montezuma to the ferry, and the roads are so shitty and dangerous there were 2 turns were everybody has to pile onto one side of the bus to keep it from rolling over into the valley, and that was the safe road to get to the ferry crossing to San Jose. But he was saying all the Volcanos are pretty amazing. Constantly very active. Always smoking, and looks like what a volcano brings to mind. Tall pointy, completely black, surrounded by a crazy looking jungle.

Oh and for the budsmokers. The buds are shitty to. From the many types of bud he smoked there he said it's all in like a small cube form and when you break it appart seeds fall out everywhere, looks like dry grass, smells like hay, bunk! It's also $40 for a dub of that crap. I always wanted to try some real Panama Red until he said it sucks compared to the bud here in the Northwest. No one there has the money to afford the grow rooms it takes to grow the good stuff. So it's all grown outdoor.

I was thinkin the same thing. I have a Giant, Trek, Specialized, GT and a Schwinn, (MTBs) some full suspension and tricked out more than others but none of them cost $1700... I think I paid $1400 for my Giant new on ebay... Disc brakes, Duke Air Rock Shox and many other Easton seat post/handlebars, Race Face cranks, Cane Creek rims and headset race parts etc.

As far as Costa Rica goes, not really surprised. Heck, there are places in the states like that, almost in every major city (they have to deliver groceries to stores under armed guard in some areas of Detroit).

Mines just above that. Runs at like $1750-$1800. I mean my frame is $400. My back wheel alone without the tire or innertube is just under $400, $130 forks, $130 front wheel. List goes on. BMX bikes are really expensive today, that's why most bikers choose between a car and a bike when they have the chance.

For the retarded look comment. Ya he looks kinda funny but he's extremely small now. No meat to his face or any part of him for that matter. But once he get's back to eating normal and riding that bike, he will look like he used to. I think the look on his face when he is overwhelmed with joy is halarious. But I strive to make the friends around me happy. I might be a little slow and like to argue a little bit on forums, but it's all fun and games to me :) so for all you're information, if i'm raging on forums, it's probably me wanting to see someone rage LOL.

Those are just a few of the stories I remembered first. There are so many others. Some are even crazier. And ya Durango. Hearing what he's said makes me really appreciate everything I have and how free we really are! We should really appreciate how safe and lucky we all are here in the US/Canada. Because even the dangerous parts you talk about durango arent that bad. Maybe close. But the police force down there I would'nt concider safe. They're about as bad as the locals. It's not just the people you have to worry about. The ocean feels like 75 degrees at night, but don't you dare step foot into it because the sharks come out at night. Camoto dragons, spiders bigger than your hand that wil inject some lethal venom. The spiders don't run from you they run after you. I mean even though the people he called his friends would have killed him without a second thought, I have to thank them because if they hadn't kept an eye on him as much as they did, he wouldn't have survived.

P.S. sorry every message is so long. I'm just amazed at how the culture is there.

Very true turkey. Makes me wonder if he's holding any stories back or not. But I won't push someone to tell me something they don't want to. If someday he fells like telling me i'll listen though.
