Just wanted to let everyone know that I am about to become part of the workforce. I start a job with Citi as a financial investigative analyst on Monday and I'm excited as F*CK!!!

I make shit cuz its a temp2perm job. The 1st 2 months are training which involves learning how to login and use 15-20 ancient database systems and learning how to spot fraudalent activity. They said usually out of 20 people 4-6 actually complete the training. If I do well and can handle the workload and deadlines then they'll offer me a perm position which I believe means more moola. :D

Dude, thats badass! What kind of degree do you have to get a job like that? I ask because I'm trying to figure out what I can change my major to while still being able to get a job that pays decent money.

Me first!! I'm honestly poorer than the homeless. My goal is to be debt free within 5 years.



I have a degree in math so I qualify for entry level analyst positions like this one. I wouldn't recommend being a math major though, I only did it because after changing majors so many times it was suppose to be the quickest way for me to graduate. I would suggest getting as much experience as possible while your in school. So many companies require experience it's ridiculous, even 1 or 2 internships are enough to swing a possible job in your favor or even lead to a permanent job themselves.

My career goal was to become an actuary but it's hard to find an entry level position right now especially since I havent passed any tests yet. Unless this job opens up a different career path my goal is still to attain a bunch of designations such as FSA, CFA, and FRM and possibly return to attain a graduate degree from a top tier school at some point.

My advice is to once you find what you really want to do, go out and start doing it on some level, even if it's an unpaid internship. The experience you gain is 10x more important than anything you learn in school.

Now that I think about it considering I have 0 work experience and I got a job within 4 months of graduating during this economic slump I think I'm doing alright...

DAMN. I would never even contemplate going for a degree in math. I'm doing Computer Information Systems right now and the math for it is making me sweat (I'm very not a math person), not to mention economics and accounting are boring and tedious as F*CK. At this point in time, I'm just grasping at other paths to take that will earn me good money. I probably need to see a career counselor...

temp2perm jobs are where its at. Actually, in this economy, any job at all is where its at -- congrats!

This is how most of my friends who graduated with other degrees got their jobs. Look for internships and make sure you BUST your ass and don't complain. It can lead to good opportunities. But congrats on the job.
