F*CK Westboro Baptist Church and the US Judicial System.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20100331/ts_csm/291560For those of you who haven't been following this shit here's the tl;dr: These faggots come to dead soldier's funerals and start picketing, and yelling degrading shit about our fallen soldiers. They stand exactly 30' back from the god damn funeral site and try to cause disruptions. So one marine's family got F*CKING pissed. I would too. That marine gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country, if you don't respect that then fine, at least let his family respect it in peace. So anyways, the marine's parents take the C*CK to court and initially win a $11 million lawsuit (F*CK yeah.) They church keeps appealing, the first appeal lowers it to $5 million. The one that just happened makes the family pay the F*CKING church! F*CK you United States Judicial system. You faggots really fucked up this time. You think you would've learned your lesson with Vietnam. But here we are again. The supreme court is taking this case in July. If they don't rape the shit out of that church I will have lost all faith in the United States. Is your reward for giving your life to our country really just pissing on their families? What the F*CK? I bet you all my money that every marine/soldier at war right now is following this case. Do you realize how bad you're going to F*CK up morale? Tl:dr again on my post cause I ranted. If the supreme court doesn't anally rape these faggots the US is a piece of shit and I'm moving to Australia.

talk about a group of people who should really be wiped off the face of the earth for the benefit of society. I hate these F*CKERS and they should all be tortured for a week and then murdered. They actually came to our little town of Brookfield Connecticut to protest some gay who was having a talk at our library. What a slimy group of fucks.

Someone once said, I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. On that note, those people disgust me, but they do have the right to say and do whatever they want.

theres talk that the supreme court may not have a different ruling on this. Bill O'reilly though is paying the 16k which is extremely nice and giving. This man has gone through enough hell burying a son. He shouldnt have to do it with people spitting hate behind him. no one should and hopefully the supreme court does something.

I don't make note of who says what on these forums but I always hear a lot about the government not infringing on personal freedoms. Freedom of speech is a pretty important. You might not like them but the courts will probably side with the church even if those attending the funeral were a 'captive audience.' These people are really warped in the head though.

Your rights end as soon as they start infringing upon other's rights. You don't think picketing a closed funeral is an infringement upon rights?

Re: F*CK Westboro Baptist Church and the US Judicial System.
Law sucks.
In general, on one hand you have obvious breaches of social or moral etiquette getting off on technicalities and on the other you have activist judges basically writing law by turning their point of view into precedent.
I feel for the families who had to go through that -- who had to lose a child and then go through the experience of having their child's funeral picketed. It is especially ironic because the country that grants the protesters the freedom to do that is the same country that brave servicemen like the ones whose funerals were being picketed fight every day to protect.
What I never understood about that is the apparent gap of logic on the part of the picketers. Certainly they would agree that we need a military, right? I mean, they don't suggest that we dissolve it, do they? Otherwise, what would protect those freedoms that they enjoy?
So given that they agree with the concept of having a military but just disagree with this war, (or in this case, something that makes this even more ridiculous, the "nations's tolerance of homosexuality") then aren't these the wrong events to be picketing? Don't they understand that when you commit to the military you are (for the most part) committing to unquestionably follow the orders of those higher up?
Don't they understand that the people who they should be picketing are their Senators, Representatives and President?
My guess is that they do understand this, but choose to ignore it so they can be sensational, exacerbate pain in the families who have lost service members, and get headlines.
In terms of who will win the suit, what matters is the legal precedents involved and the arguments each side make. It sounds like a civil tort so there may be some hope for the families.
In terms of who is right and wrong however, I think it's pretty clear and actions of these "church members" are disgusting and unfortunate.

Re: F*CK Westboro Baptist Church and the US Judicial System.
Look at it from another perspective...
How much are your rights worth? The average income for a well educated person in their lifetime is around 2.5 to 3 million. Do you really deserve more than what you can make in a lifetime simply because someone was causing you mental distress? Yes it's a horrible thing to protest at someone's funeral, but quite simply it's not an 11 million dollar crime. There was no physical harm done and they stay a significant distance away.
Justice is suppose to be blind. You don't magically get 11 million dollars because you got offended by what someone was saying. The first court got one thing right, the Marine's parent's rights were violated. They have a right to practice their religion, which include burying their dead in a dignified manner. Your right of free speech does not override their rights. What the first court didn't get right was the damages.
The Westboro church is your typical attention whore. I think if the media agreed to STOP covering them these protests will end rather quickly.

From my understanding they weren't on the funeral home property, they were picketing nearby. IF that was the case then honestly I dont see how the courts can rule in favor of the family. If anything they'll just rule that the family shouldnt have to pay the legal fees of the church.

You don't have to agree with the war but to take it out on the soldiers who are just doing there duty is WRONG! I am an adament opponent tot he wars in Iraq and Afganistan but I will always give 110% support to the men and women of our armed forces. Those people make me sick, they are no better then the sick fucks that men and women died fighting.

You know that the WBC is basically funded by lawsuits such as these, right?
