You guys would really impress me if you both did that. I'll do the same.... at least a blues scale and some "luff waffle jazz." I really doubt I can pull of some Metheny stuff though... I wish I could. And if you guys want your improvisation to blossom, learn your modes (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian) and your intervals (major thirds, minor sevenths, etc).
Here is a lesson on modes. Because Fomenta called me out and criticized me for citing wikipedia articles, I'll explain myself this time. I'm using wiki articles because they really do a good job of breaking the modes' sounds and properties down:

Very Nice Bleep. Chopin is very challenging to play and you nailed it.

OK people, here is a PERFECT backing track to solo over. I would really like to see what you guys can do over this, regardless of the instrument you play. Don't worry, its safe to download.
Also, if you wanna get a feel for the type of scale you should be soloing in (lydian mode, minor and maybe a little dorian at times), here is the writer of this lovely track playing over it in the style of Steve Vai. I'll be posting my take on it soon.
