 FPS in main server
Hay.
I know this should probably go into tech stuff but I wanted it to get more attention and see if anyone else is having a problem with fps at the start of rounds and sometimes persisting throughout the round, but most of the time not. At the start of every round my fps drops to around 20fps, then as I leave spawn it boots back up to about 110ish. This isn't a problem cause I'm not getting shot at in spawn. But today on inferno I would be walking around and my fps would randomly plummet to like 10-15fps usually ending with my dying.
I ran a video stress test and I was averaging ~145 through the whole thing. Is there something wrong with my connection? Anyone else having this problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks nubs.
Edit: If it's any help, it's also taking my longer than usual to load into the servers now.

 Re: FPS in main server
Sounds like a prob on your end- slow network, dying/full hard drive, or dying RAM would be my first 3 guesses.

 Re: FPS in main server
If it were a problem with my hardware it would show in the stress test.
I don't see a problem in my network connection because it boots back up to the regular speed after spawning. It's not constant low-fps.

 Re: FPS in main server
The client actually doesn't load the entire map before it spawns you, rather, it progressively loads the map from your position outward. There's a client convar "cl_forcepreload" that is supposed to force the entire map to load before you spawn, but I'm not sure how well it works and it might delay you a few seconds of fun in the pistol round. Also during the first few seconds, the server sends a ton of information about the state of the map. There's a netgraph setting (net_graph 2) that will show you a rainbow type thing -- those colors represent different types of data that your client is receiving. If you put that on when a round ends and starts, you'll see a huge spike in it when the server is transmitting more information than usual, most likely information about resetting the map. ( http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki ... Networking) Also, you can disable some things that tend to lower your fps (shells ejecting, water splashing, water reflection, etc).
