Post Kegerator Project
So I got a bonus from work (well, I got told that I was getting a bonus). I'll have it when I get paid on the 18th.

What am I going to do with it? Well, I'm going to put about half of what I get after tax toward making the most badass homebrew kegerator ever.

Image

I'm going to have 8 taps total, with 2x stout faucets hooked to Nitrogen. It's going to be the illest shit you've ever seen... and hopefully I'll have it ready and at least partially full by the time I throw my party on May 1st.

It's going to look something like this, except it'll have more taps and I'll probably eventually paint it some other color or put wood paneling on it:

Oh my god Gman, I just came twice. Is the picture of what you have already built or something similar to what you want?
Either way, shit is nice!

The second pic isn't mine -- it's what I'm aiming to build.

Come over Saturday night for shizzle. We'll brew up a batch or two and then drink some pale ale. I'm gonna pick up a few ounces of whole leaf hops to garnish the pale ale. It'll be baller as hell: throw a couple of whole hops into the pint glass and fill it up with pale ale. Who needs an orange/lemon? Hops, baby. Cascade all the way.

Post Re: Kegerator Project
Decided to go with a slightly different design, but this is the project thus far...

The freezer I got is a kenmore 23 cubic foot freezer. It'll hold 13 kegs easily, but I'm only going to do 8-10 faucets. The extra space inside will be for backfill kegs so I'll have a full keg on-hand when I drain one. It was rusty as F*CK when I got it. Pit Stop sanded it down for me and we re-painted it with Rustoleum appliance enamel.

Image

This frame is what the keezer (which is homebrewer talk for kegerator made out of a freezer) sits on. We mounted 6x casters that are rated for 300lbs each. The frame itself is made from 2x6's and 2x4s.

Image

Here are a few closeups of the base:

Image
Image

This is the box that is going to house the faucets; it sits on top of the lid. It's insulated with one of those pads of foam insulation secured with liquid nails. I caulked all of the interior wood-on-wood seams, too.

Image

Here are the sloppy cuts on the lid. That black stuff is just metal debris and bits of cutting-wheel that got chewed off. What you can't see in this picture is the wooden frame we built on the inside to reinforce the floppy sheet metal. The box on top is pretty heavy, and we didn't want the damned thing to fall apart on us.

Image
Image

Holes complete and mildly deburred -- sanded 'em down to hit them with another coat of paint.

Image

The inside of the lid after we hit it with some insulation + liquid nails:

Image

Decided to fill in the gaps here with "great stuff" foam insulation and then stick another pad on top of it with liquid nails -- that'll give the underside of the lid a nice clean look, and it'll be pretty well insulated.

Image

Went a little crazy with the spray-in insulation + liquid nails, but better safe than sorry, right?
