Post Time to switch to Macs
http://store.steampowered.com/news/3569/

The ONLY reason I've been staying on windows has been eliminated!!

I only wish they did this one year ago when I was shopping for a new laptop.

Macs still suck dick. They're overpriced and you get absolutely no gaming benefit from them. The laptop I built from hp that has an 18.4" screen and equivalent parts to the top macbook cost 1k less. The top of the line HP hdx18, which i got cost $500 more and will wreck most desktop's shit.

You've now lost your testes.

give it a year and watch the trend swing. yes macs are expensive, but anyone who does serious visual shit on a computer has a mac. windows needed 64-bit to keep up, and they are still trailing. not to mention the stability. imagine never having to reformat your computer or try to find random process leaks that chew up your pc's resources.

The main reason I like mac is that their power to size ratio is incredible. A macbook pro with identical stats to my laptop when I bought it was 1/2 as thick. Yes it's overpriced if you look only at the stats alone, but if you consider all of the factors, such as material, form factor and size I think the macbook pro stacks up for when it was released. I would gladly pay a few extra hundred dollars if I can reduce the size of my laptop by 50% without any impact in performance.

If you're buying a laptop that is meant to be an easily movable desktop, a mac is a bad thing, as it should be. The macbook is designed to be an ultraportable computing solution, it's something you can throw in a backpack and take anywhere and use anywhere.

Post Re: Time to switch to Macs
The best thing about Macs used to be Psystar (MACs for a fraction of the cost), but Apple did their best to shut them down. MACs are not the ultra friendly and reliable products you think they are. I have personally seen more than enough problems myself (related to battiers, power adapters, overheating and more) doing tech support at my college.

And if you do some online research you'll be surprised to see the number of people who bought MACs thinking they're great, only to regret wasting all that money. The macbook material is hardly any better than the top of the line laptops from other companies. The main difference is the bloated price. Performance wise, they don't even come close to PC laptops.

Simply, there are far better, reliable and affordable laptops out there for your every need (ultra portable, regular, gaming, extreme desktop replacement). The Operating system is its only saving point, and with Steam support it's going to be great for people already stuck with MACs.

MACs are definitely good (the problem free ones). The alternatives are simply far better in every way, unless you are an absolute mac fanatic who likes wasting cash.

Try to find a laptop that has a dedicated GPU capable of playing CSS, with 4 gb of ram and a core2 duo released before May 2009. Now try to find one that's 1" thick or less.

So what its one inch thick. How bout you find a mac book that can play Crisis without skipping a beat. It wont happen. AT ALL!!! Best part it will be close to the same price as the mac.

It was probably one of the worst $209 investments I've ever made. I find it is extremely hard to play video games with a giant dick in your ass.

My HP is about 1" thick. Maybe even less.

I entreat you to look into HPs. They're the F*CKING shit. You can get a 17" or a 16" hdx that will cost even less, and be more portable.

And yeah, Reborn is right. All of the CS kids at my school say mac is only good at a few things, namely low-budget film and photo editing. Otherwise, it has more problems than windows/linux, and their hardware is far subpar.

Post Re: Time to switch to Macs
The mac/windows pc debate is as old as time itself. Macs used to be the best thing since sliced bread, and the only people who used pc's were clueless teachers and haadcoaa computer geeks. I swore I'd never buy a PC, and that was when I was running a mac powerbook with a 608040 processor.

Then I got into computer services at college. And there, they introduced me to this crazy idea called MULTITASKING. I could run winamp AND play games at the same time! They also introduced me to networked computer gaming, namely quake 1.

Anyway the thing is, the deep, clear, line in the sand between macs and PC's is blurring quite a bit, esp. now with steam on mac.

The argument is essentially RELIGIOUS anymore. So to me it's not worth having. Also, I don't care whether my next computer is a mac or PC-- which is saying a lot for both platforms.

LAPTOPS ARE NOT MADE FOR GAMING.
IF YOU BUY A "GAMING LAPTOP" YOU'RE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE.

ALL LAPTOPS ARE MADE FOR PORTABILITY.
BOTTOM LINE
ALSO CAPS.

To me the only advantage Macs have on PCs are looks. Aesthetics aside, I vote for PC all day.

Mac's are great don't hate, they cost more but retain there value to make up for it. Also there's no reason you couldn't have ran bootcamp before for steam so this really isn't much of a change imho.

If you have it at full power it lasts about an hour. It'll last four-ish if you only use it to browse internet and things.

As for the link:

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/series_can.do?storeName=computer_store&landing=notebooks&a1=See+all&v1=series&a2=Display+(diagonal)&v2=Over+16.9%26quot;&a3=Processor&v3=Intel&a4=Category&v4=High+performance

Just go to the dv8t, and then customize whatever you want for it. I did max everything and it came out to 2.4k.
