I found this oddly ironic.

It was proven that he "changed" and deleted data and admitted to placing the data sensors in places that would give them their desired results, giving data that just wasn't science.

The kind of odd thing about "global-warming" "climate change" is that many people become extremely passionate about it, almost to the point of inability to reason with them. To them, the science is settled (despite many warnings to the contrary, the number of which seem to increase daily) and anyone who doesn't blindly agree is not an actual skeptic but a "denier" pushing some agenda. I'm not sure how this comes about but its very interesting.

Because Im a nice guy and I figure you may actually want to know Ill explain what I can about this phenomenon

You're brain is a difference engine, much like the computers you work on all day, it takes in data every second of the day and inputs it where it sees fit. Its also a logic engine, everything that is seen in the world must be understood whether its the truth or not. When your brain cannot understand something or cannot prepare for it, you get the emotion of fear. Fear is a response to the unknown 99.9% of the time and .1% of hte time its a response to death, but that's different lol. Most of the people who go hardcore into anything in the world have a lack of full understanding of both sides of hte story, in this case climate change, and since climate change became such a huge cultural phenomenon in Western societies they accept it as right and well.

When you accept something it is cultural for us to back our beliefs, to do this we rationalize as to why our stance is the correct one. Doesn't matter if its logical we just need to have it. For people who don't understand things fully they push rationalization to a bizzaro level, and they start seeing others as incompetent and believe that as you said they have another agenda.

That's the jist of it it gets a little more complicated than that after so long.haha too much to write

As for my post, I forgot to include one thing in there because I thought it was late lol...

If our culture is right in its understanding of hte world and the major science laws are in fact true to their word, then you can really think of the earth as a living organism. We are encapsulated in a bubble that we can only escape from at high velocities. The bubble much like your body adjusts to every little change that occurs in it. If you get a cold your immune system kicks in high gear to irradicate the spread of the infection. Much so if the earth gets too much of one thing it starts to kick back into getting rid of it. We will never (minus a nuke to the core) Kill this earth. Each time something happens it rebuilds itself, hence why we came to be after millions of years of dinosaurs not existing.

If co2 emissions don't cease and people keep reproducing at high rates eventually we're going to get a natural disaster that will wipe out most of the world. Whether you like it or not, humanity at this stage of population is like the virus spreading in your body. once it bloats up enough it'll die off, hopefully not fully.

Until then when stuff gets severe in a region , weather patterns will probably shift to the complete opposite. IE nevada and Arizona may one day get fertile again.

PSychology major going to probably specialize in how social realms(ie culture/large groups) affect the individual conscious, also speak 3 languages working on the fourth/fifth. Was a huge science nerd in high school almost went into computer science, also have a large math background because of my dad/uncle. I was the guy everyone cheated off of. My memory is a sponge to the point of where I can memorize numbers/names/visual images without much effort. pretty much makes me an all around smartass.

My Environmental Sciences teacher said "The earth is very good at taking care of itself. If taking care of itself involves destroying the human race, then we're all pretty fucked."

Also, he said that "global warming" is bullshit, as the United States would actually get colder and have more severe storms.

this is a good analogy. there is also the possibility that the "immune system" of the earth cannot heal the effects of irresponsible human behaviors. yes, we will never destroy the earth (albeit your nuke reference), but we can deplete the resources needed to sustain human life. that being said, i feel we are still many years from that possibility, and it seems society is starting to realize the consequences of continued abuse and/or neglect the environment. (and don't get me started on your dinosaur statement... in a different thread maybe)

i really like the discussion that's happening here. this is the type of information and conversation that you should all share with your friends IRL. it will help lead to positive changes in our world, not just changes because Al Gore and his political machine can cash in on. sustainability is the word. live it.

Why would you add the nuke reference? Because, even if we did manage to dig the 26km(?) to the mantle, if we dropped it, it would burn up not even 2 feet in.

Garrett if we are smart enough to know how to split an atom and make nuclear weapons, don't you think we're smart enough to know how to detonate a nuke before it melts? It really isn't that hard to figure out. Please don't side track the thread with your nonsense :)

For you guys bashing the environmentalists, what the hell is wrong with caring for the environment that supports us; that we so utterly rely upon? I mean, the radical hippie environmentalists may be a little weird, but "going green" in the old-school, non-Soccer-mom-al-gore way is truly admirable.

The arrogance of our society is the wall that blocks us from truly moving forward quickly and efficiently. To assume that we are 'smart' or 'intelligent' enough to know how our actions affect the eco-system intimately is truly absurd.

Our knowledge is increasing at an exponential rate. To even think that we can comprehend the intricacies of something as complex as nature itself in this moment in time is absurd.

Our society is so wrapped up in itself and differentiating itself from nature that it has forgotten, or even worse doesn't care, what truly is important.

vision my comment about us being smart enough was about the nuke thing specifically. if we were smart enough to understand the eco-system we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place. i'm on your side of the fence on this topic, i work towards protecting our environment at least 5 days a week man. my company is on the verge of a major development, which we're expecting in the next few months. once it happens i may share it with my fellow n00bs, partly because i'll be too damn excited to keep it to myself :)

Oddly enough... the same guy said "Never argue with a moron, he'll just bring you down to his level and beat you with a baseball bat."

But anyways, try reading purple's post. It's pretty relevant to that quote.

I doubt your professor was talking about the Earth eradicating human existence. If he was, then I guess they are handing out PhD's at wal-mart.

Well think about it, if we manage to make the earth inhospitable to ourselves, then we'll all die. But the earth & nature will repair itself over time, because it's got a virtually infinite amount of time compared to us.

Gentlemen put your donkey dicks away and have a civil conversation. This is why the political forum was locked.

State, you know I like you, but your posts are intended to raise blood pressure and emotion. Those type of posts don't belong in these types of threads.

So if I don't agree with you I'm trying to make you guys mad? My posts are not INTENDED to raise blood pressure, I feel as though I am making a valid argument, and if some of the jokes are offending you I'm sorry you feel that way and I apologize.

I don't think State is pissing anyone off purposely, did you watch the video he posted? That, right there, is good enough proof to explain what his point is. No need for more words.
