 Natural Selection 2 Mapping
Ever since I was offered the position of doing the mocap for the marine model by Charlie himself, and not being able to make it to California to actually do it, I still felt the need to contribute to NS2. h!gh turned me on to this game way back when we played Condition Zero, and I've loved it ever since. I decided to try at the map editor, and see what I could create. I have no previous mapping knowledge, other than playing with Hammer once or twice and a couple old-school map editors for Quake. I think I may make this a serious thing, now. I've started working on a new map. I don't have a clue what the name is, but, If anyone would like to help me plan out how the map will look, I'll make sure you get credit for what you put in. I need some people who are willing to plan a layout for the map with stairs, big fighting rooms, resource tower areas, and so-on. I'll explain the details to anyone who plans to participate. Then we'll name the map once we get a feel for it. Here's a couple screenshots from the development of the map so far... everything, all the way up to the lighting was done by myself. The props and such were, of course, part of the editor. The starting area: The hallway leading to the computer room from starting area: The computer room: The final hallway after entering the door:

Its crazy: I've always heard how good NS and NS2 were, but I never investigated them. I need to do some research before I post again on this thread.

All I gotta say is open your mind to new styles of gaming because NS is def not your normal FPS.

 Re: Natural Selection 2 Mapping
ok, here is the first draft of my map. it probably isnt finished, let me know what u think. i am not that creative, let me know if u want me to add or change anything. I think it could be pretty cool with some added props and a cool design layout, i dont know what the design layout of the game is, but it could be really cool. even make some of the hallways and rooms outdoors (if possible) it would be really cool. its a .rar of 3 pdf files, 1 of each floor. I used a program called Inkscape to draw it on my computer, so the lines are not straight at all, but they are supposed to be, lol.

Tom, I have a dude who's been mapping for years. Even made Bullet Catcher and I our own Dust2 remake for our old clan.
If you want to talk to him, hit me up on steam friends and I'll give you his info.

NS1 was good, I didn't even know there was an NS2. It's not sven-coop, that's for sure. Hammer editor is pretty easy, it's just a basic CAD program.

 Re: Natural Selection 2 Mapping
NS2 does not use hammer to map, even though it does use the same engine. NS2 uses something called Launchpad, which is a custom-made mapping tool designed from the ground-up for mappers. Charlie and Max made it as simple as they possibly could for mappers to use the editor. There are still a lot of bugs, but they are working them out quickly. There's almost a weekly update. I started working on the "Marine Start" area yesterday. I can't say that I'm actually too thrilled over this one so far, but it's missing the commander's chair, players, and a lot of other things that haven't been taken into consideration. I kept the orange-ish lighting features, because it just seemed to fit the map better looking scarily. There will be some edits coming to the marine start area, most definitely. Here's a screenshot of the Marine Starting Area so far...

Woah that shit looks cool. I'm loving the idea. Only map I ever made was in college for unreal but it was in Maya for my level design class. I'd like to learn this but I don't even know wtf is NS. If it's free, I'd be down for it.

I'm willing to teach you what I know (isn't much, though), all you need to do is come to vent, and I'll send you the editor. That goes for anyone who wants to try and make a map using this tool. It might help you in future times if you decide to make it a hobby/job.

 Re: Natural Selection 2 Mapping
I once made a Doom2 map in some sweet WAD editor.
I know this isn't about a CSS Map, but a n00bfest CSS Map would be pretty sick -- especially if it was unveiled at the championship of one of the n00bfest tournaments -- just sayin...

 Re: Natural Selection 2 Mapping
fomenta i've been thinking more and more about building custom n00bfest maps. i played with hammer a few years ago and made a couple lame maps that i cranked out quickly just to see how they'd play. i tried with goodkat and a couple others to create a n00b map, but effort fell off quickly. i'd like to get back into it, cause i have a couple ideas for maps; however, they are more "fun" style than competitive, but i would love to make a competitive map to be used in one of the tournaments.
sorry acid, i don't want to hijack your thread, so if any n00bs are interested in helping build CSS maps for n00b DO NOT respond here and please PM me.

 Re: Natural Selection 2 Mapping
New screenshot of the circleroom for the NS2 map: Taking the right side of marine start. This is a half-circle room with windows through-out the entire right side. As you can see, I don't have all the windows cut out yet, as I just started messing with this tonight. It will be done soon.
