I'm moving in June or July to downtown Atlanta. Should be interesting: its my first move out. Any tips? I've already decided I'm getting a firearm for this shit.

Careful with the CCW-- if GSU has a no weapons policy and you print at all on campus, you could be in nastay trouble. There's a very recent case at one of hte other state colleges.

You'd have to live in off campus housing, which is where the trouble is likely to brew anyway.

I highly recommend dorm life. The social life that develops from that is one of the main points of going to college.

grats man!. some of my family lives in alpharetta which is a suburb of atlanta. Its a nice place to go to but like the others say be careful and research everything with the school first when it comes to CCW. otherwise have fun! theres some great places to go to and get F*CKIN annihilated near GSU.

Congrats, I'm jealous. GSU has one of the best Risk Management and Insurance Departments out there...

lived about two hours from atlanta, and been there several times. you will be amazed at how many people in georgia put shiney ass rims on the most peice of shit cars. it doesnt have a hood and the side door is torn off, but i got my 22 blings so im pimp!

Same here in Tampa, I used to have to transfer buses at a busstop in the ghetto, and every single pos car had rims on it. American Black Societal norms are very interesting...

I too as well recommend at least doing one year in the dorm, its gets you a solid bases for shit socially, trying to get comrades out of your classes and shit is harder in college from my perspective most of my mates are from dorm life. One year in the dorm is really all you need, after that going out on your own would be fine, it's what I am doing.

heh, I know of a few already, but I didn't pay attention to the bar scene last time I went up to the ATL because I wasn't 21 at the time. I am now, so thats gonna change.



I'll be taking a few classes in risk management and whatnot since I'm a business major. I'll be frequenting the business halls quite frequently. You should apply and help split this housing bill. :P



HAHAHA, I've seen that so many times living here. Too easy to make fun of, I say. Oh, and I currently live in Augusta, by the way. I go to Augusta State Uni. right now, too. I'll probably be living in Augusta again when I graduate (as my home location when/if I join the Navy). So I think chilling is gonna be easier than expected.



And for everyone else's well wishes, thank you kindly. I'm probably going to be living on campus for the first of 2 years I'm there. After I complete this semester at Augusta State, I'll be at 61 hours and an official junior. If the school allows CCW, I'll get a gun but if not, its cool. College campuses in Atlanta are pretty safe thanks to the crazy-ass gung ho campus police they all have. I'm not too worried about safety. On MARTA at night, thats a different story.

The guys that suggested dorm life for at least a year (and I'd add at least your first year) are def. right.

Also, if you get a job, get a job at a bar where the bartenders are like juniors and seniors (not where they're like 40 year olds) that way you have a chance of working your way up to becoming a bartender and making good money -- also you'll most likely have to work your way up and a doorguy is great job.

Student groups can be cool but they're worthless on a resume unless you were president -- that time is better spent getting good grades.

Don't get bad grades first semester, you'll spend the rest of your time trying to make up for bad grades that you got in easy first year classes.

Don't take classes like the history of scuba diving unless you really want to or its somehow related to your major -- at least don't take a lot of them -- good resumes are destroyed by transcripts that are covered in random ass classes.

Go to Professors office hours (or at least email them) with questions -- even if they're ones that you already know the answer to -- this is especially important in huge freshman year lectures -- they'll be grading sometimes more than 100 students and if you're name is even somewhat familiar (like, "he sounds like the kid that emailed me about thevenin's equivalent circuits...") then you are much better off than j.random freshman.

Yup. In my first semester I had better things to do (and more important) and ended up with a 1.2 gpa. It took me a long time and a lot more work to bump it up to 3.69 when I was done. A good start is very important.

Don't let all that AFRICAN AMERICAN shit get to ya.I was born and raised 20 south of atl. and still live in hampton which is 30 miles south of atl.They have done alot of new work to that place started a new football team this yr.Make sure you go eat at the varisty it's right across from ga. tech which is 10 blocks from ga. state.There are alot of AFRICAN AMERICANS here but if you stick to the campus or buckhead you will be all right.Let me know when you come to atl. maybe we can meet up.

Atlanta is not that bad. Just stay away from Ponce De Leon after midnight even though there is a 24 hr Krispie Kreme Donut. Mmm, donuts.

I graduated from Georgia Tech in 2004. Correct me if I am wrong but the one bad thing about the Georgia State campus is that it is spread out.

Lol @ the doughnuts. I love em too. It doesn't have as nice of a campus as Tech, because Tech has an awesome campus, but it looked pretty well-grouped.
