No.

There is no problem, because with my ergonomics my thumb fits right into that slot. In fact those extra two buttons are awesome. I can talk and shoot at the same time without moving my hand. I have one bound to vent to talk and one to in game.

The new one never gave me problem, that button shouldn't bother you. It feels nice too in the hand as well.

i have the crackle blue and black G5 and i wouldn't trade it for any other mouse in this known world.

5 out of 5 for sure, but the only single semi-issue i have ever had with it is that, sometimes i'll notice, playing cs, that the wheel kinda has trouble figuring out which notch it wants to be in and i'll inadvertently change weapons back and forth. then i just spin it forwards a bunch and it shuts up. this happens maybe once or twice a month, NBD. love this mouse.

id get a g5 but im ocd about wires and if i feel even the slightest tug of resistance I get pissed hardcore. So I went and got a g7. same thing no wires. im in love.

I have that exact G5 (silver/red). Just when I was used to it (after switching from mx510 and Intellimouse), it stopped working properly. Left click would only work randomly, forcing me to make another switch. Now I'm happy with my DeathAdder.

Yeah, I have the newer blue G5. I've never had a problem with the extra button...I love this mouse :O

I had the G5 you are looking for, but there was a driver issue that affected a few of us n00b memebers last yr. The stupid thing would turn off for a few seconds and reset.
