I haven't been around a lot the past few weekends 'cause I've been stepping up my brewing quite a bit lately.

I've got 4 beers going right now.



From left to right: Bavarian Dunkelweizen, Coffee Porter (American style), American Pale Ale, and Coffee Stout (English Style).

How hard/dangerous is it to try to brew your own beer. I've got a couple of unused closets in my apartment...

Not that hard, and not dangerous at all if you're not afraid of boiling liquid. Distilling is dangerous, but brewing isn't.

Now send some over so that I can taste it. I'm still searching for a good tasting (and easily acquirable) beer, but so far everything has tasted like pee. The only one that was remotely manageable was Smirnoff Ice with lemon (any malt beverage is beer to me).

Do you actually put coffee in?

Not in the Coffee stout. It'll have a much fainter coffee taste. I'm using this in it: http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_i ... s_id=10129

In the Coffee porter, I'm going to fill a mesh bag with 2-3oz of Kona coffee (whole beans that I've beaten with a hammer to give them a "coarse grind") and let them soak in the keg with the beer when I'm done. I'll taste it after 30 minutes or so, and if the coffee flavor isn't strong enough after 30 minutes, I'll let it sit longer.

Have you tried Sam Adams? Also try the micro brews around your area. Local breweries tend to make the best beers.

Also, turn in your man card for admitting you drink Smirnoff Ice. Don't admit you like that anywhere, you'll be ridiculed. If it has the same proof as beer and is sweet, it's a chick drink.

I highly recommend you grow a pair and really try and aquire a taste for real beer. and don't try something like red dog or olde english and base your opinion of beer as such. Sam Adams is great. Most (if not, all) of their seasonal brews are fantastic, but if you're not going to like it unless it's SWEET sweet, then the best suggestion i can come up with is a beer called Honey Moon from the Blue Moon Brewing company. It's probably the sweetest real beer i've had yet, but still nowhere close to the pancreas-thrashing sugaryness of these girly "flavored beer"s.
