So you guys know I'm a redneck well that's only half true. I don't own a gun. Not even a fake toy airsoft gun or anything gay like that. So I have been looking around the last few days and I been stuck on Remington's model 700 rifle's. I was wondering if anyone has had any exp. with them. The one I really was looking at is this one Model 700 SPS Tactical .308 Win. It's a nice cheep but accurate rifle it wouldn't be used for hunting much since I'm not that big in to that shit. It's would be more just for the enjoyment. I'm a alright shot so I'm really just looking for something to get better on.

Mauser M98 yugo/chech/turkish models are incredible, reliable, and awesome to shoot. If you can find a 1935 Mauser from a russian crate then its even better as the russians had TONS and TONS of them left over after the failed Operation Barbarossa that werent even fired yet. They are 7.92 and 8mm and are pretty cheap to go to the range with. Now these are incredibly easy to find and a good one can be around 300 up to 600$. I like the modern rifles and such but I find these rifles to be so much better. There is nothing more satisfying then this rifle. Theres a reason why its called one of if not the best military rifle ever created. I sadly havent been able to buy one myself yet but Ive shot it ALOT. Plus it looks incredibly sexy

I'm a fan of them. Only problem is the bolt is from like the 60s and was recalled...I need to get it replaced.

Even right against you tightly its still going to leave a mark. I had 2 sexy military fucks bruise themselves too. BTW Cory, I have a 40mm gaping hole for your 12cm blazing barrel to stick it deep.

The Remington 700 is, for the price, one of the best hunting rifles in the world. Hands-down.

its a nice rifle and you will deffinently become a better shot using it...

Show me an article from a reputable source who refers to the K98 as one of the best military rifles ever created. They're decent, but they're not the bees knees. If you want to talk about great military rifles, let's talk about the AK-47 or the Springfield 1903-A3.

Mausers are good because they're cheap and there (used to be) lots of cheap ammo in sardine cans that you could buy up for dirt cheap at gun shows. That ammo is becoming harder and harder to find and more and more expensive.

im talking bolt. yes Ak47 obviously is superior. Hell look at its reliability! one of the reasons why the Vietnemese walked all over us was simply because the AK47 was so hard to foul up. they could walk around them rice paddys and jungle and not worry about it to much. Our soldiers half the time where in fear that the second they pulled the trigger on their "amazingly" made m16 it wouldnt do a damn F*CKING thing. also take note that the Ak47 was "stolen" by the russians when they realised Hitler and his STG44 (first assault rifle evermade) started stomping on them. AK47 will always be superior but in the sense of Bolt actions and the military rifles of the early 1900s and late 1800s it was superior. Springfield was great dont get me wrong but id still take a masuer over it anyday of any year. They basically were the same rifle as the springfield was made from the Mauser 1893 which were carried during the Spanish-American war by spanish troops. The basis for the springfield was taken from the Mauser used in this war since the mauser was a stripper clip loaded rifle while we were running around with trapdoor single shots. A quote from wiki

"The War Department had exhaustively studied and dissected several examples of the Mauser Model 93 rifle captured during the Spanish-American War, and combined features of both the U.S. Krag Rifle Models 1894-1898, and the Mauser Model 93, to produce the new U.S. Springfield Rifle, Model 1903. Still, the 1903's used so many design features from the German Mauser that the U.S. government paid royalties to Mauserwerke."

So Mauser > Springfield. If you cant beat em...copy em.

Maybe the M98 is not the best "rifle" ever made but its sheer impact upon the battlefield was immense. You may not agree with me or them but the history channel did a top 10 service rifles of all time. The mauser was top 3. This was coming from a curator at the US arms museum who has a doctorate in this shit haha. Of course number one was the garand but that F*CKIN gun is hacks and hacked ww2. SO I take back saying its the best ever and say the Garand was the best "service rifle". no garand..no allied victory. no allied victory...your eating snitzel and wearing your lederhosen.

also note that much of the modern Bolts used today in your hunting rifles and sniper rifles were based on the original design of the M98s controlled-feed bolt action.

Just because it was one of the first bolt-action rifles doesn't mean it is superior. Your argument is invalid.

Ak_47's are it and most likely will be for some time. K98 is a great rifle but it doesn't touch the ak or A3.




If you want something fun to shoot and don't want to get hung up on precision jump into an AK. You can grab them for about $500 and if you can bump fire its as fun as playing with a duck in the bathtub. You can get a decent Saiga for $400 and add some parts/modifications to make it the next best AK to a milled receiver. If you have the money, $1000 will get you a milled receiver AK. Those are the shit.

Well the whole reason why I want a bolt action is cause i there so much easier to clean the a semi-auto. Less parts means less cleaning (cause I'm lazy) which means a faster cleaning. I was wondering is the .308 interchangeable with the 7.62 NATO round. I haven't found a clear answer on the net about that yet.
