 College degree BSCS or BSSE
What sounds like a better degree name to have: Computer Science or Software Engineering? Over at my college they have both programs and both of them mostly have the same core courses needed to graduate. They are both Bachelor of Sciences degree programs and heard that before and now Computer Software Engineers held Computer Science degrees. I was just wondering what sounds better.

Get experience, that's all that matters.

I'd go with CS, as it's a more broad degree. You can be a "software engineer" with a CS degree.

i don't know enough about the difference between the two degrees, but i know software engineers, especially if they are good, make a tremendous amount of money. i am still pissed at my parents for talking me out of it....

Or better yet! Bachelor's of Philosophy! They got a BA in Comp. Sci. at my school as well, but I'm sticking with the Bachelor of Sciences programs because of the recommendations set out by my HS guidance counselor. I originally entered in the Software Engineering program which JUST opened up at my school and it's Computer Science program has had a bit of reputation. It's the professors that want me (and other SE's) to stay and make the most out of the program (my argument is Comp. Sci. and Soft. Eng. curriculum has the near exact set of courses required for both majors at my school).

Re: College degree BSCS or BSSE
I have a degree in biology/chemistry. I'm now a senior level software analyst/programmer. Haven't touched a microscope since I left college. I got into computers because web design & video games were my love, and my quake2 clanmates happened to have a webmaster job open. I learned programming, learned that I was good at it, and loved (and still love) it. All after graduating.
The degree doesn't limit your choices in any but the most hardcore or top-level of jobs. Just the fact that you HAVE a degree is what matters most-- it opens up more opportunities, even though it's unfair, unjust, and all.
If you're not sure what you want to do with your life, no big deal. My dad decided he wanted to be a doctor at age 40, and did it. But don't kill your chances of finding that thing by specializing too much into the tech portion. The BA degree is a really nice thing to have if your interests are varied, compared to a purely tech degree.
I'll say it again. If you're not sure what you want to do for the first 10 or so years of your life outside of a sheltered institution, you should just focus on a broader degree, doing well enough to not cripple your chances in a post-bacc education, and having enough fun to make your college years memorable.

If the classes are that similar you could always double major, although I don't know if it would be beneficial.

Re: College degree BSCS or BSSE
if your thinking about changing majors just get core credits with a gpa of 2.5 and transfer to binghmiton for those degrees, more choices than just CS, SE and CSE. but if u want to stay i would stick with CS and just take the other classes just in case, I can always recomend to my dad to get u in Lockheed
