Ashes wrote: Since we are talking about Source guns, and this has nothing to do with the subject really...but back in 1.6 when using the m4 with the silencer on it seemed to help with accuracy a bit(is this right or not?). Can the same be said about the gun in Source or does it not make a difference? Thanks for helping a fellow mental patient..... im real life the silencer reduces accuracy and range so source should do the same but i dont know much bout the game to make that decision

 Re: opinion on the SAW
So far, I have run across no conclusive evidence that the silencer in Source had any effect on accuracy.
The only thing I do notice, however, is that the weak-ass gay man fart sounds the silencer makes generally put me in a more cautious state and I slow down to aim more accurately than when it's making full Rambo noise.

 Re: opinion on the SAW
The silencer does (Slightly) increase recoil in Source. It also (Slightly) increases damage at close range, but also decreases at mid range and drops off a little more on long range.

I found that the silencer decreases recoil, fucks up aim hardcore and does less damage all around. The m4 shoots F*CKING rainbows and rays of happiness and doesn't kill with a headshot.

I simply stated what I've found through playing. Also the m4 sucks C*CK because it does 80-90dmg for a headshot, which is less than 100. I'm not sure if valve knew this ultra-secret, but 100 is actually how much it takes to kill someone.

 Re: opinion on the SAW
Gman wrote: No. There are more M249's in service than M240's. The M249B (the squad carried heavy machine gun) is not put in full service do it its non-flexability. The 240 Saw, is designed to take belt, drum, or mag feeding which can be loaded from either the side or top of the weapon, can be switched to either feed left or right depending on the firer, and fires 5.56mm full metal jacket rounds. Its versitle, easy to maintain (not alot of small parts), and light enough to be carried as a main weapon. not to mention it uses the same ammunition as the standard issue M16 rifles in service today. Headspace and timeing can be done at squad level, as there is a buffer zone for functionality. the barrel is shorter and can be fired longer before it needs to be changed out. Range for the saw sucks, but was not intended to be accurate beyond 350 meters, and because the ass of the barrell is so close to the fireing chaimber for the mag feed, has a tendancy to run away (meaning it will fire out of control until all ammunition is expended or you melt, and split the barrel). The M249 is actualy a mounted machine gun for the Abrhams tank that was later adapted (poorly) for squad use, designation 249Bravo. It fires 7.62mm FMJ AP rounds, and will only take a belt feed thus limiting mobility. It is signifacantly heavier and longer than the Saw. Although packing tremendous stopping power, it is highly inaccurate and overheats easier than the saw, but because of the top feed, does not run away as much as the saw does. The 249 was orgionaly designed as a wide area supression suppliment to the main cannon of a Tank to give it some anti-infantry defences, not to be toted around and fired from the hip. Matinence on the 249 is a bit tricker, as the headspace and timeing is a make or break for that weapon. The barrels for that weapon have a tendancy to melt from prolonged use. Good thing about this weapon, is it ammo type. Fireing armor peircing rounds, this thing can turn a two story building into a block of swiss cheese. Even though accuracy sucks, it has a maximum effective range of about 450 meters. and is easy to take apart and put back together, if you can get that headspacing right the weapon fired in counterstrike commonly refered to as the saw, is infact not a 249b nor a 240. It is in fact a retired heavy machine gun designation M60. Combine the shittiest aspects of both guns and the M60 is what you get. Saw much field time durring WW2. its bigger than both the saw and 249b, significantly heavier, and a pain in the ass to take apart and damn near impossable to get the headspace and timeing right. They fixed this in later renditions, but earlier models of the M60 did not have an interchangeable barrel, meaning once you warped the gun, you toss it aside and hope you have a side arm because its going to look like a red hot old mans penis. the M60 was cheaper to produce as it used cheaper metals, and is still used in some private security companies now a days, but was mostly replaced with the 240 saw. i was sent away to the military acadamy in Vilsek germany to be an armorer for my old unit. Graduated number 2 in my class of 28. I dont know much about civilian guns, but i am a trained SME on military weaponry. Just dont ask me about planes, other than the Spector C-17, i havent the shittiest idea what the airforce uses.

Link plz, etc. Just visited the thread for the first time since I posted that. http://www.icantlose.com/modules.php?na ... age&pid=11There is an actual chart for all weapons somewhere with close, medium, long ranges with damages to unarmored hp and armored hp. I think it was linked from gotfrag, but right now it's down so I'll find the chart later with the rest of the weapons if I ever think about it again.

 Re: opinion on the SAW
I think that chart is full of SHIT! I've gotten a TON of 81-93 damage headshots with a lot of different guns. It's a pain in the dick.

 Re: opinion on the SAW
http://www.ggf-gaming.de/weapons/dc_version3.phpThis is really nice. It's for 1.6, but I'm almost sure that rifle damages are the same. The lesser used pistols will be off because I know for a fact that they changed the damages about a month after they released the dynamic weapon pricing because deagle went up to $21k and all the other pistols besides usp and glock were $1.

You realize that the chart if you want to call it that is only for the m4 and it has that range of damages in it? With Kevlar Vest And Helmet -- Silencer ON head 0 m 90 hp 20 ap head 25 m 81 hp 18 ap head 50 m 73 hp 16 ap With Kevlar Vest And Helmet -- Silencer OFF head 0 m 87 hp 19 ap head 25 m 82 hp 18 ap head 50 m 77 hp 17 ap But check out the other one I just posted. It's really nice and a little on the idiot proof side.

 Re: opinion on the SAW
The thing about the 1.6 to Source difference is that while a lot of the damages and what not are the same (except those guns, I watched those updates too), but the mechanics of the game work a lot different because of the Source engine's physics. Most recoil patterns are completely different due to this.
I do notice a change in the recoil with and without the silencer off, but I can't quite figure it out. Also, I don't really see any difference between the damage with and without the silencer. I believe I read something from Valve stating that there was no damage difference, but I cannot find it so I don't want to say it's true or not just yet.
