 Re: Inspirational Americans!!
Lincoln divided the country and drove his northern industrial agenda to the point that it caused a civil war. Don't let the propaganda fool you. The civil war wasn't about slavery - it was about money and control. Slavery is the excuse we use to feel good about the number of slaughtered, raped, and burned brothers and sisters we suffered on both sides. It just makes it seem worth it, right? How could we live with ourselves if we admitted it was all for money and power? Tag it with a greater purpose and there's no price too high.
JFK was assassinated, which never should have happened. However, let us not forget that he nearly got us into a nuke war with Russia because of his inexperience and failed international relations. Legendary? Only because something terrible and significant happened to him. Not because he actually accomplished anything significant during his presidency (aside from one of the most controversial deaths in history).
Despite the "reality" of those two situations, they have still been played up as two o the most influential presidents (in a good way) in the history of our nation. I question the validity of those claims already, but just for the sake of argument, lets say for a moment that they WERE great American presidents and they are legendary...
Obama hasn't really done shit yet, and he's listed with those guys? Give me a break. This is about as racist as it gets, folks. He's winning the Nobel prize and being called inspirational and successful just becase of his skin color. He's done jack shit to help this country so far and as long as he leaves the major decisions up to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed, we will continue down the slippery road to national bankruptcy and socialism.
If you're old enough, register to vote and bring back the balance of our government. The Dems are out of control and the two party system is failing thanks to George Bush Jr. That F*CKER turned people so far against republicans that we've gone too far in the opposite direction and given total control of the country to one party. The two party system is there to prevent either from driving the country to destruction, and we are failing in that regard.
I'm a relatively conservative dude, but I blame this whole mess on Bush. He created too much of a division and was allowed to create a divide that will take years to heal.

 Re: Inspirational Americans!!
An independent will never win. Too many people just go to the ballot and vote Dem or Rep, and leave. I think they should do a pre-screening on people who vote and see if they know the issues/points of interest that the parties are for. If they can't answer that, then they should not be able to vote.
What was the percentage of black voters that voted this time compared to any other election? A ridiculous number. And almost all of them voted Dem.

 Re: Inspirational Americans!!
Garrett, that's hands down the stupidest post that will be made in this thread. Nothing bad about you babe, it's just Ralph Nader and other third-party candidates are the bottom of the bucket when it comes to morons who had parents telling them they could be president one day.
While I agree with you on your synopsis, Corpse, I gotta admit, JFK did a great job of promoting tolerance for your fellow man instead of self-destruction of our race.
This painting is nothing more than propaganda that really only preaches to the choir. It'll solely be purchased by hardcore Obama lovers because they are, in fact, retarded.
The frenzy to give Obama street cred in the political world with awards almost - ALMOST - gives the whole Illuminati conspiracy bullshit some believability. However, that falls short because Alex Jones is a lard-assed conman who hates Jews with a passion and has consistently cried wolf for decades simply to profit off of the large amount of dumbasses in this world. "It never happens because us calling attention to it" just isn't an argument that cuts it.
I concur with Corpse again when he says to vote. Voting is the single most important thing you can do in your life. It's your duty to yourself and everyone else in this world to put people in to your government who aren't complete and utter failures. Don't give me that "my vote doesn't matter" bullshit. You vote. You do it or you don't bitch about what's going on. For eight years I had to fight back my automatic choking people reflex every time someone BAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW'd about Bush even though they didn't vote for anyone. Yeah, Bush is a failure, but they didn't bother making a choice on Election Day so they can suck on Uncle Sam's big, buttery, fluffy-white-haired balls. The election Bush "stole" could have easily gone to Gore if those hippieshits in Florida had actually voted.
However, I must make commentary about the whole national bankruptcy and socialism deal. Let's start with healthcare.
The sad fact of the matter is that healthcare is a integral part of our individual survivability. There needs to be an overhaul of our healthcare system in this country. We have a meager one life to live with no 1ups. The best we have are Large Medkits that are only available from doctors and those Medkits are pricey.
I simply find the whole concept of "You should have to spend your entire life working and developing stress that is killing you so that you can PAY to stay healthy" to be utterly abhorrent. As I said, we have one life here on this Earth to live and that lasts about 60 to 70 years. That's nothing compared to how long this universe has been around and how much longer it will continue to be around. I've said it before and I'll say it again, charging for medical assistance is a gross affront to the Hippocratic Oath taken by all doctors (and yes, it's unfair of the rest of us to charge for our services as well, I'll get to that in a moment).
Doctors themselves are only a small portion of it though. We need tort reform and a major attitude adjustment as well. Rampant malpractice lawsuits harm everyone. Some of the lawsuits are completely justified as they're directly resultant from negligence and extremely poor medicinal practice. However, far more are caused by the proverbial "luck of the draw" and people with entitlement complexes feel compelled to jump all over them. Even if the case is thrown out, lawyer fees are astronomical. You're not entitled to compensation if there's an unpreventable accident anywhere ever. Ever. Ever. Ever. Every second you don't kill yourself, you are acknowledging the risks involved in being alive. When you go see a doctor and go under the knife, you acknowledge the risks involved with it. Every time you take medication, you acknowledge the risks involved with it. Want to sue someone for an accident? Sue yourself.
There are plenty of people who abuse the medical system too. Druggies who go to a hospital simply to get a fix should be thrown in to active volcanoes. Seriously. If you're reading this and you go to hospitals simply to con painkillers, go die. I don't care how you die, just do it. You are filth and don't deserve to live on the same planet as me. I hate you.
The same basic principle applies to education too. Since the first ape walked upright with a thin layer of self-awareness spread out over his monkey brain, our race has sought to learn and understand. It's taken a long time and there have been set backs, but we've gotten pretty far and we've figured a lot of things out. There's a whole wealth of knowledge out there and it shouldn't be restricted to those who can afford it. We'd advance by leaps and bounds on a daily basis if everyone alive was able to live long and be educated. There would be no shortage of scientists or mathematicians - only useless professions like clergy and politicians would be found going extinct.
Socialism is a pretty scary concept for most people in this country generally because they've been raised to believe one thing their whole lives and anything that goes against that belief is wrong. However, the fact of the matter is that capitalism and socialism are both social ideas. They are both abstract, unquantifiable concepts created by human beings in our quest for knowledge. They both spring from money - another concept. Money springs from ownership which is yet another concept with no real applicable value other than what we put in to it by fiat.
The scary part is the thought - or lack thereof - that involves how our lives would be different in that manner. It is scary to think about living in a world where we don't have to fight tooth and nail to get where we want to go. It is scary to think that necessities such as food, shelter, healthcare, and education can be provided without us having to take them by applied power of will.
No one is to blame for their innate fear of such things though. Humans are programmed to fear the unknown just like every other animal. Our safety net is constructed from the memes that we gather and reinforce over the course of our lifetimes as they are spread over our instinctual operation.
We allow ourselves to be ruled by abstraction and sadly in a world with over seven billion people, limited space, and only a few vespene geysers, the biggest man approach has become ethically flawed. We are capable of providing for our fellow humans the world over, but we decide against it because we're addicted to the almighty dollar. We're told that pieces of paper and cloth truly hold value in this world and we base our lives, our societies, and our future on something with no more true value than "Let there be..."
If money wasn't the singularity behind the Terminator, we'd have nothing to fear. There would be no national bankruptcy, no capitalists, no socialists, no resource grabs, reason to fight for "ours". We would never have free ourselves from the rat race because we simply wouldn't be in it.
tl;dr version: Microwave your genitals so that you cannot further pollute the gene pool.
P.S. I just knocked out a solid three hours at work typing this. Yay for low call volume on Sundays.

 Re: Inspirational Americans!!
I'm stuck on my theory that the U.S. needed more chaos to be spead about to make people wake up and see what's going on around them. Obama is a flake, but it's just so.
When 9/11 hit, the U.S. was in shock, everyone and there grandmother had an American Flag dangling out of the window or house. (funny thing that most of those American flags that were sold, were made in China BTW) it gave everyone something to talk about and the Army got alot of new recruits that they needed badly, they almost purposed another draft they were so low. You can't get budgeted for more money to be used if you can't meet the quotas.
So, we are being outsourced....what would be a good idea to make money for failing companies in the U.S. ,and help make up for all the tax dollars that get pumped into feeding and housing Military people? WAR
well, it failed.... George W. Bush was supposed to create more jobs by starting a WAR. instead, we just ended up spending more money on this WAR then it was worth.
who made out on this deal? DEMS they we pushing this equal housing thing in an agreement with GWB to let him foul up and do what he thought was going to work. and when it all went wrong ol' George got blamed for it. and they got who they wanted voted into office. Mr. Flakey
The mortgage companies took the ball and ran with it. and thus began the housing bubble and problems with the economy that George Bush will get blamed for forever.
BUT! and this is a big BUT .....if people can support there country by buying things that are only made in the U.S. then it will put money back into the United States hands and we can vote for someone smart. black / white / mexican / asian whoever.

 Re: Inspirational Americans!!
I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but Kitten has some very valid points!
The concepts of socialized medicine and even the very fabric of our educational system COULD indeed be done in positive, species enhancing ways that would benefit our world for all time.
We could also get to a point where nobody really had to charge for their services, no matter what those services were.
There's just one thing that breaks the whole system down - PEOPLE.
PEOPLE are the reason a government run healthcare system won't work. Because the government has convinced itself that everyone just wants a chance, just a fair shot, fair treatment, and THEN they would be a productive and honest member of this society. "Come on government!! Give me some free education, a free house, some free food, free healthcare, and anything else I want, and I will get a job and be productive! I promise!"
THIS IS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FALSE.
The lazy, the ill mannered, the "entitled" multitudes will take take take and give nothing back unless you REQUIRE work in return. Work requirements are the one thing our government will never do. Because we're a democracy. A free society. The land of freedom and opportunity carries with it the freedom to be F*CKING bona fide worthless. We can't have it all. We cannot enjoy the benefits of socialism or (dare I say it?!) communism because we only want the BENEFITS without paying the price.
To each according to his need, from each according to his ability - the communist way. We only want to give to each according to their need without a REQUIREMENT that they provide services according to their ability.
Of course, none of this can work here in the good old USA because the primary element that drives our country to it's greatest successes is......
drumroll please......
GREED!
That's right, the one thing we want to penalize people for the most, the thing we want to tax the most, the thing that guides our "punishment radar" is greed. It's what makes us tick. You can invent something here and if people want to pay for it, you can make UNLIMITED WEALTH.
Now instead of paying your fair share, you get to pay YOUR fair share, plus the fair share for an untold number of no-account lazy fuckwads that refuse to pay their share.
If we're gonna go there, lets go all the way there. Again - say it with me - To each according to his need, from each according to his ability. Let us not half ass this thing. One does not work without the other. Otherwise the productive people that try, have to pay extra because of the ones that don't.
(The preceding message did not address the people that are legitimately impaired physically and/or mentally, and unable to be productive members of society. That is a topic for another discussion altogether.)

 Re: Inspirational Americans!!
I cant wait until after my tests so I can respond accordingly.
However, just to throw some stuff out there.
I don't understand people on either side of the Obama fence. He hasn't done anything, most presidents haven't done anything in their first year. If anything he has, IMO, over-exposed himself (which was a bad idea given the polarized atmosphere of our country right now) and he and Congress have not taken the time to properly approach national healthcare. Their attempt to rush through legislation before they lose their majority was a bad mistake and most likely the reason why they will lose their majority in 2010. Obama happens to be one of those people who gets thrown into the spotlight by OTHER people, so why take it out on him?
Healthcare and insurance in general IMO should not be run by private companies looking to make a profit. It's never made sense to me as anyone with the slightest understanding of human nature and business knows that a company is out to make money and they will do whatever it takes to increase their profits which includes screwing people out of their benefits. To actually think that something is going to get passed now is a pipe dream. Healthcare companies are spending $1 million dollars a day on lobbyists to block any bills from passing. Yes, $1 million dollars a day. Good luck trying to compete against that.
Our educational system is so out of date it's ridiculous. It needs an extensive overhaul and yes there needs to be some sort of federal oversight. There aren't too many people out there arguing that our educational system doesn't need changing but there are a significant amount of people out there who say nothing and the local and state officials refuse to fund education properly and would rather use that money somewhere else to secure votes and win favors from their peers. People have to send a message to these people that they will not tolerate this behavior anymore. THink about it. Those in office make a lot of money and have power and influence. There is no need for them to worry about their children's education. They make more than enough money to provide their children with anything they need. "Average" Americans don't have that luxury and just get what they get with public education which is a joke in many places. It's perpetuating the cycle of ignorance which is what those at the top either want because it sustains the status quo or they simple just don't care.
The two party system is a joke. To assume that everyone falls in either one of two categories is one of the most absurd political ideas I've ever come across. People need more choices, it's as simple as that. There needs to be a limitation on how long a Congressman can serve. They have too much power and influence which creates more problems than it solves. Lobbyists need to be under more control or totally eliminated. Political candidates also need to be limited to equal amounts of public financing.
Capitalism vs. Socialism - I'll save this for later, let's just say moderation is key.
