I've been saving up some cash for a little while to buy a rifle. I've tried about 10 different .22's over the last few months and I really like the look and feel of the lever actions. A local gun shop has a deal on a Henry Golden Boy .22 lever action, so I'm thinking about getting it. It's on sale for $399.99 (CAN) with 300 rounds of CCI ammo. I think it's normally $450 for the gun only.

I'm wondering if anyone has shot this rifle before? Most of the reviews I've read have been extremely positive except for the fact that the receiver isn't real brass (it's what Henry calls brasslite, which I believe is some sort of composite that is supposed stand up to wear and tear better than brass). For those who have shot one, what are the pros and cons that you found?

love these guns every nut and bolt american made with pride even the wood is grown in usa and it shows my next gun is going to be one in 30-30 only con is weight compared to other 22lrs its a pricey piece but it comes with braging rights

I use my Ruger 10/22 for hunting and dispatching animals to butcher and I love it. Very glad I stocked up on ammo for it years ago when it was dirt cheap.

They're slick little guns, but you'd probably be better off getting a Ruger 10/22 unless there are some stupid magazine/semi-auto restrictions I don't know about. It should be cheaper and there's an INSANE selection of aftermarket parts for it. I have a 10/22 that I got as a kid, and I've dumped a couple hundred bucks into it throughout the years and it's amazing.

Henrys are cool and I'd love to have one for sure. Sometimes a lever action is just fun to shoot.

However, a Ruger 10/22 is one of the best .22s there is, they are more modern, take a magazine, it's semi-auto, and most importantly perhaps, it's also cheaper.

Save shit like lever action rifles, revolvers, etc. for when they want to ban semi-autos in a decade or 2 because idiot libtards think semi-automatics are "too much firepower" for civilians, which is the same rationale they used to ban full autos in the 1930's.

Gman, there are no restrictions in Canada for semi-auto rimfires as far as I know, I'm not 100% sure though so I'll have to look into that.

I guess I should consider the 10/22 as well, so many people seem to be crazy about it. What's the number one aftermarket part that you guys would recommend for it? Since they are so much cheaper than what I would have spent on the Golden Boy, I could probably put $100-$150 into customizing it.

Now that I think about it, it seems like a lot more fun to have a tricked-out 10/22 than a stock Golden Boy...F*CK.

The trigger and the magazine release are the first things you want to replace. The Volquartsen parts kit is one of the best out there. It's what I run in my 10/22, and it's F*CKING amazing. I'd suggest getting the 10/22 and shooting it for a little while before upgrading, though, so you'll appreciate the baller-ass Volquartsen trigger even more.
