I am building a new computer. No idea what kind of mother board to get... Nor what to look for.. i am going to use my computer to type papers and play alot of video games ... so something to support thoes habbits

First, figure out what kind of processor you want, then pick a motherboard.

i would highly suggest intel over amd, ive found that amd runs much hoter and overheats much more often, where as intel is cooler and less costly. i dont know about anyone else but my i7 laptop can run all day playing games and music and it never gets glitchy like my amd ones have in the past, they over heat so damn quick

Im running an AMD Phenom ii x4 right now, runs fine.

Usually, Intel is going to be more expensive than AMD.

A price range would help us out.

Two important things to consider when building a gaming rig. What kind of power consumption are you going to need, and what type of cooling. When you look at processors and boards, take a look at power supplies and cases as well. In my opinion, if you are trying to save some bread at the start, go cheap on a video card and then upgrade it later. This way, you aren't trying to save by buying a cheap power supply or case to make up for the cost of the video card. Plus, you can work out all of the tweaking and settings of the memory and bios.

Of course, if you can spend the money, do it all at once.

Yeah, realistically come back with a price range and I'll put a hypothetical one together for you.
Ill even explain it to you if you're curious.

Spend the money on the Motherboard since it's your base and everything else is upgradeable.

I have run both Intel and AMD and the hottest one I have ever had was my old Intel quadcore. That sucker could heat my bedroom for the night in the winter time in no time flat. My new i7 never gets past 35 no matter how hard I have pushed it. If over heating is an issue, then go big with your cooler and don't use the stock ones. I agree with Mossy on both the PS suggestion and the Vid card. New cards are always coming out so you can always pick up the older model (which is still good) cheaper.

I'm doing a re-build myself. I'm keeping most shit, but all core components, vid card, etc. gotta go.

Get the most recent socket so it will be the most upgrade friendly.Most of the time that means less choices and more money but in a year when it still supports the latest cpu's you be glad you have it.

I built all my computers with AMDs until the i5 and i7 came out and I switched.

AMD is often a bit cheaper, so if you're on a budget, it would be a good option.

I know some people like to believe that there isn't a difference between AMD and Intel, but after many years of using computers with both processors, I'd have to say that the award for stability goes to Intel. With games and multitasking (which seem to be the test for pushing the computers limitations) I have had less problems with Intel based chips. It was hard for me to believe and as a computer building enthusiast, I just wanted to be wrong about this. But the amount of time I've spent working on computers and using them, it is just so clear to me now that Intel chip prices are high, but worth the extra money.

As a fellow "computer building enthusiast" myself, I have to concur with this. The stability is worth the extra money.

But, that doesn't mean AMDs aren't still good for budget builds.

The Gap between AMD and Intel used to be a lot closer.

Im very satisfied with my AMD in my desktop now.
But my next build will have an i7 in it.

just dont buy a mother board, you should just die
