So I just got a new monitor and I cant get my display to match my screen, it has the black border around it. Any help on how to fix it would be appreciated. btw i uninstalled my graphics card drivers tried to change from hdmi to dvi messed with the resolution settings restarted the computer. nothing works

nvm, i switched it from hdmi to dvi and it worked. idk why it wont work with input hdmi though

what size monitor is it? it could be due to HDMI will only display the resolution 1920x1080. depending on the size of your monitor, that resolution could be less than your monitor is able to display and it appears shrunken. there should be a setting to "stretch" the image to fit your monitor, but you will not get the same picture quality as you will with DVI. i recently went through this when i hooked up my 42" HDTV to my computer; it stretched everything, and the image quality was just "ok".

What type of graphics card do you have? With my card, it's not so easy to find the Nvidia setting to manually adjust the desktop size. Whenever I update my drivers I have to redo everything, and I can never remember where to look.

Weird! My main is on HDMI and I don't have that problem at all. You might just have to go into the monitors settings through the buttons on the bottom of the monitor and adjust manually.

I tried that as well, there was no options or tabs for screen size and nothing in resolution so I dont know what the deal is. It works on dvi so its all good though

DO NOT USE AN HDMI CABLE!

YOU MUST USE A DVI CABLE!

HDMI and DVI are exactly the same cable, HDMI just ALSO carries sound, DVI is a HD cable, you don't need HDMI. You only use an HDMI when you have to have sound too, i.e. you use a HDMI to go from your video card to your TV (so you can have the sound come from your TV when you're watching a show/movie), but when it's to your monitor, you don't need sound, so use DVI cable.

I think it's retarded that when you use a HDMI cable is has that about 1/2 inch black border, but there's nothing you can do about it, so use a DVI.

Let's just say I felt pretty stupid when I realized how easy this was to fix.

If DVI cable doesn't work, which it should, then I don't have a clue, but I had the same problem.
