Inconsistent FPS Fluctuation Causing an Unbearable Time
Lately (for the past 2 days) I have come to notice that after playing on the CS:S n00b server for one full match, I get an inconsistent and quite bothersome fluctuation of fps (frames per second) while playing. To clarify, I will explain further.
So I will join the n00b server for the first time of the day, everything is fine, people are playing, and the server normally at the time in which I first connect (mostly 12am pacific time) is running smoothly. There's most often about a good 20 people playing. That is until either more people join or the server moves to a new map. After people join and or the server moves to a new map I begin to receive like said before, an inconsistent fluctuation of FPS. It will go from 30fps to 100fps back and forth so fast I physically with my own two eyes cannot keep track of which is actually being displayed on the screen. It's beyond frustrating and I have many times explained to the admins on the n00b server of the FPS lag I am receiving from this inconsistent fluctuation of FPS. Yesterday as I was playing during a full server we were all receiving lag spikes and others were complaining of inconsistent FPS, so the General in which was playing at the time (Sweet Pea) restarted the server, twice. It didn't change anything. Eventually after a quick discussion everyone concluded it was because of the server being located in Denver and that the current weather situation in Denver was wrecking havoc on the server provider, in the end causing us trouble. But I don't feel that was effecting me a whole lot. For I was keeping a consistent 65-80 ping during the entire time. It wasn't my connection that was causing my unbearable lag, I concluded it was the FPS. Which is why I eventually put in sl_showfps 1 into the console and that is how I know of the 30 to 100 fluctuation of my FPS.
The n00b server is the ONLY server I receive this fluctuation of FPS and I cannot figure out why. I have spent about 2 hours researching and I have come up short. It's not because of overheating, it's not because of my CPU being pushed to hard. I honestly have no idea what is causing this. I need help. I'd love to continue to play on your guys' server and I'd love to get to have fun on it. But it's unbearable for me to play when I am constantly getting twitchy game play and other problems caused by lack of a consistent fps.
Please help, and thank you for reading all this.
Here is my PC specs too:
Windows XP Service Pack 3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.41, GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM
Screen: ViewSonic LED HDMI 1080p Full HD (refresh rate: 60)

What video card do you have?
*EDIT* Also I seen my fluctuate yesterday.. Was pulling anywhere between 87 fps and 298 fps... So I used fps_max 60 and it stays at 59.. much more consistent that way.. Plus my hardware don't have to work as hard.

Re: Inconsistent FPS Fluctuation Causing an Unbearable Time
General server lag seems to have increased in the past couple months. Ever since the dbase crash(or whatever happened near the beginning of the year), it has been unbearable at times, but fine at other times.
I know gman has to be aware of this.

Video card has minimal impact on source. It's very reliant on CPU.

Try using the Dual-Core optimizer. I used to have issues with that in CSS myself. Its something where the dual processors overwork or something like that. Let me know if you need more help bud.

Why do I ping 70-75 on a Dallas server D: I should have 50ish ping.

Re: Inconsistent FPS Fluctuation Causing an Unbearable Time
If you have an autoexec.cfg put this in:
fps_max "thenumberthatisthelowestaveragefpsyouhave."
with quotes, for example my config has this: fps_max "67"
I use 67 because it's a multiple of 66 plus one extra as a buffer. If your lowest fps is like 150, do fps_max "133" and so on and so forth, 66x2 or 3 or 4 or 10 then add one to that number. Reason for the whole 66 thing is that the game is built to run on 33/66-tic servers and keeping your fps/refresh rate the same or close to the server ticrate improves reg.
