well i was thinking of getting a semi auto as a fun gun, and then maybe a revolver for home defense.

I'm at work so I can't view the links but I can tell you that Sigmas are junk, spend another $150-$200 and get the M&P series. If you are on a budget the taurus 1911 would be a good buy but again without looking at the link I wouldn't pay any more than $600 for it new. I'm normally not a big fan of Taurus, its just not my cup of tea. I am however a huge advocate of 1911's, I can't say enough about them. Design, function, fit & caliber are all great. You won't find many people that will talk it down and if they do I can almost guarantee they bought something cheap.

for plinking there is pretty much nothing more fun than a keltec pmr-30.

the ammo is a little over priced, but it's such a fun gun, and caliber.

I saw some semi deals on there but don't know what guns are good even though they have decent reviews

I have owned a taurus 1911 for a few years now and i LOVE it. It isnt the greatest quality in the world, but you get what you pay for and i consider it a bargain for the price. Plus the taurus has a lifetime warranty and i have had zero trouble with their customer service.

That being said, you should go to a local range and shoot different handguns to see what you like. just a suggestion

I've been thinking about getting a Taurus when I get down to TX. I either want a Taurus, a S&W M&P40 or a Sig...might just end up trying them all out and seeing which one I like the best.

i had a S&W MP40 for a year or so. Its a super nice gun, but i sold it too my cousin. I just liked the XDM's more

Dont get the sigma. I looked at buying them and played around with one for awhile and it just felt weak. The slide felt thin and fragile, I felt like I could dent it pretty easily. And the whole gun felt almost toy like because of the plastic. It was weird

so S&W and taurus pistols? S&W 1911s are kinda expensive, so I might go for the taurus 1911, but might get a S&W revolver though

This is how I feel about Taurus:



All they do is take good designs, copy them, and do a shitty job at it. Well, they did make the Judge... which is simply a piece of shit novelty that serves no real purpose. If you buy a Taurus, you're either going to get a decent gun (50% odds) or you're going to get a piece of shit you'll have to send back to the factory several times for them to get it right (50% odds). Not worth the risk IMO.

If you want a 1911, buy a Colt or a Springfield. Don't buy a Kimber -- they're overpriced as F*CK and a Colt or Springfield is just as good.

If you want a revolver, S&W is the way to go. As much as I hate Ruger, they also make some decent centerfire revolvers. Don't buy a centerfire semi-automatic Ruger pistol, though. The only semi-automatic pistols Ruger makes that aren't garbage are the 22/45 and the Mark I/II/III.

If I were you, I'd figure out my price range (for sure) and then go to a gun range and handle as many firearms in your price range as possible. Figure out what feels good in your hands. Figure out what you like and don't like in a pistol. Then, and only then, come to us with your top 3-5 pistols and we'll help you sort out the good from the bad.

Don't get me wrong -- Kimber makes good pistols, but they're overpriced. For the same you spend on a Kimber, you can get a Colt/Springfield and pimp it out to your liking and end up with a much better pistol.

I have ALWAYS recommended people take a serious look at the CZ-75. They're my favorite 9mm pistol.

Glocks are solid pistols, but a lot of people refer to them as "retard guns" because they have so many safety mechanisms in place without having an actual "lawyer safety" that you can enable/disable manually and you can't de-cock them etc. I personally don't care much for them because I'm a fan of accuracy and style more than I am anything else. Glocks are just ugly to me, and they're typically not as accurate as the CZ-75. If you want a Glock in 9mm, look at the 17, the 19, and the 34. The Glock 19 is their smaller-but-still-not-tiny 9mm pistol, the 17 is a little bit bigger, and the 34 is the "competition grade" 9mm. If I were going to buy a Glock, I'd buy a 34. I've seriously looked into buying one, and probably will at some point. I just LOVE my Springfield P9 (a CZ-75 clone) too much to cheat on it with another 9mm.

what was the price range of a usual cz 75? I was looking for that because you mentioned it before

i have to disagree when it comes to ruger p95s they are affordable and i love mine they are a little clunky but are accurate and very reliable .

Yeah, but for $100 or so more, you can get something that's a hell of a lot more accurate, heavier (better recoil management) and with a narrower slide (easier to holster).

CZ-75.

I think you should get a hi point better than any kimber or other gun on the market.
