Been looking around locally and haven't found any good deals on guns, so now my questions is....

Where would one find a good pistol online for a good price?

Looking for handguns for occasional target shooting and just home defense etc

Been doing some reading as to good guns but still not that well learned yet so help is appreciated

Save yourself the fees for transfer/shipping and buy locally. Most gun shops can order anything you want for free. Online prices are hit and miss, most are high and the ones that are low look good until you factor in shipping to an authorized FFL dealer.

this^ just do some research find out what the gun you want should cost and tell your local gun shop u got that much cash and are ready to buy now.

or google gun shows in your state and go buy one there

You rarely get good deals on new guns at gunshows, what happens is u get excited looking and touching then buy with out realy knowing what the gun is worth but it a good idea to go to one just to feel them see how they fit if your gonna buy know what a fair price is before u go.

Take cash to a local place and haggle.

They'll sell it to you for cost + 5-10% most of the time if you're persistent.

In Alabama,gun shows are better than shops.They usually take the shit their wanting to get rid of badly,so if you can find what you want you can get a great deal.And you can also see what other people came to trade and get an amazing deal.I once got a 50 cal desert eagle for 500 in pristine condition in a wood box lined with velvet.That box was sexy,the gun was too F*CKING big.

What are you buying the gun for?

For home defense the best choice is a good pump action shotgun like a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870. Easy to use and damn near impossible to break. Also the sound of working the action alone is enough to make just about anyone shit their pants.

Next best gun for home defense is a mid-caliber revolver, .357 or .38. Not as easy to use as a shotty, but a few trips to the range should get you comfortable with it. The .357 can also fire .38 and .38 +P ammo as well.

Semi-autos are great fun guns, but in a home defense scenario they are not the best choice. The operation is more complex and as such they are more susceptible to jams. It doesn't happen often, but I have had to clear a spent shell casing out manually more than once from a semi-auto pistol.

If you are buying for fun nothing beats a semi-auto pistol. Lots of rounds means longer time between reloads and with a few extra magazines you can cycle the weapon and get back to blowing shit apart much faster than a revolver.
