I've got the Radeon 6670, all I play is HD movies and CSS, and I'm as happy as can be. He'll enjoy that card.

Re: A Budget build for my friend
My last computer had that processor -- I was happy with it. I'm not convinced that 7200rpm drives make a significant difference unless you're doing something weird, so I think you could have gotten a bigger drive for the same price range. Other than that looks good -- 8G of memory was a good call since shitty apps like firefox eat up so much.
In unrelated news, I think there is a huge market out there for inexpensive, professional looking cases. The time for pimped out computer cases with glow in the dark wire loom and neon fan LEDs is long past. I'm not critiquing your choice clorox, just saying that shopping for cases sucks because of the shitty inexpensive options.

Re: A Budget build for my friend
I'm actually thinking about building my own rig, I wanna job being an IT guy after my deployment. If anything ill take your most of your build and run with it, but I'm completely new to this stuff, but highly interested. My point is could someone possibly give me a link to building this stuff? or is it that simple piecing it together? Although i prefer an AMD 6870.

Re: A Budget build for my friend
Just hanging out before bed... Seen this thread and thought Id see what I could come up with. It may help somebody, ya never know. CaseHard DriveMotherboardGraphics CardPower SupplyRamProcessorRunning Total after Shipping and Handling = $657.25 This is a 15% discount on the Power Supply (not Factored in) Promo 15% off w/ promo code RWPSU15, ends 4/15 The GTX 480 is somewhere between a GTX 570 and GTX 580. At my resolution [1440 x 900 (I play in windowed mode on a 1920 x 1080 monitor]) with BF3 set to ultra I have yet to see it drop below 53 FPS. However, it does run hotter because it is older. The one I have in my PC is this exact same one, and you turn the fan speed up to 60% and it won't go over 60C The next big upgrade I would recommend is a CPU Cooler like the Hyper 212 Evo, and then a SSD. *Edit* And Yes, I know it is mid 600s but their is 11.00 discount (15%) so it is around 646.25 and when your investing in a computer.. 46.25 is worth it considering what your getting for the price.

Also, $20 more and you could have gotten an Antec Three Hundred which is what I have and it's very professional looking (lol fomenta) and has better than average cooling for the price.

Re: A Budget build for my friend
O and before I forget I have that powersupply, and it is a good one.. Don't listen to what they say about the power button. It is sturdy enough.. It is powering my GTX 480, a SSD, 2 500 gig HD, 4 Fans, a hyper 212 evo, 5 usb devices, a 500 gig usb 3.0 portable HD, and a Core i5 2450p processor.. It is also very quiet..

No, I know. I think you did a good job with the case. I'm just complaining in general. Its like a ricer car with neon underglows, plastic spinner hubcaps and $700 subs without any dampening so their trunk lid rattles louder than the bass. Its bullshit glitter and no function. I just want someone to offer a respectable, inexpensive case without the fluff.

The cheapest way is to buy newegg's $279 barebone kit and just add a video card...cost under $500 that way if you buy a pretty decent GPU

Re: A Budget build for my friend
the mouse is so bad, get a logitech g400, those things are built to last, also reliable as hell for the psu, grab a seasonic 620w bronze or something, its plenty of power, i run 2 gtx460s and a i5 on a 650w psu personally not a fan of amd but i guess if you're on a budget not much choice there as for the graphics card, get a gtx460, its better than the 6770

Re: A Budget build for my friend
I can vouch for the nice build quality on the Logitech G400. I was skeptical at first because every other mouse I've gotten in the Logitech stable hasn't passed muster.
I still want my L-TracX trackball.
AMD is great. Unless you're doing some hardcore shit with computer work like rendering 3D models for Toy Story 5, you're all set with a modern AMD chip. Also, the 6870 is better than the GTX460, and it's $20 more.
