Besides this fact, some pesticides tend to have cumulative effects on the body.

Nevermind how expensive organic produce can be at a grocery store. This can be mitigated by taking on more local development. Prices can also be improved through utilizing seasonal crops in a greater variety.

Not to mention Organic tends to taste better in my opinion. Its worth spending a little bit of extra money if something is just better all around.

As the official Kwang thread Debbie Downer, I cannot stop myself from posting this.

That being said, there could be other studies out there that do show such benefits. All I know is the great oracle claims that health/nutrition/taste differences are not supported by scientific evidence. There may be environmental reasons for buying organic, though, which is as good as any in my opinion.

The whole organic vs non-organic thing is just BS! An apple is an apple.

Judicator, if you read that rutgers article, it actually states that the type of growing conditions (organic vs conventional) were factors, and therefore regardless of how someone managed to skew these results for that picture, they weren't lying when they posted the numbers comparing same type produce with different types of growing methods.

Secondly, I happen to know from personal experience and from the experiences of others that switching to primarily organics tends to create situations where your health is improved and your energy levels go up.

So where does organic sugar do on the list because thats to only organic "food" I know I have hehe

But looking at the kwang's post, that it a huge difference, perhaps it would be good to start switching to more organic foods.

The thing I'm confused on is the picture Kwang posted has a reference date of 1995 and the study was published in 1948 and the Rutgers "correction" was written in 1991.

If it tastes better, it's worth the extra money. But as for the whole environmental/social justice proponents of the organic movement...they can take a hike.

Exactly. The same trucks burning the same diesel and ruining the environment the same way ship the organic food and the... non-organic/regular/normal? food just the same.

The reason why foods using non-toxic wholly biological methods is called organic even though it was the primary means of growing (prior to industrialized farming) is because there isn't much else to call it beyond "non-conventional" but organic farmers 'want' it to 'become' conventional, so that doesn't work.

By using the word 'organic' it is meant that the growth and life span of the produce isn't artificially altered by petrochemical or other unnatural means.

How about this: Go organic and local. Doing this will reduce our dependency on oil exponentially. This would easily and significantly increase supply of oil, while decreasing demand.

My girlfriend's father grows tomatoes, corn, green beans, red/green/banana peppers, pumpkins, water melons, and lettuce. A neighbor down the road raises his own chickens, and pigs for food..

All we need is someone with cows and my hollar is a super market.

I don't think that you can trust everything you read about something on a carton anymore. Unless I could grow it myself, I have my reservations about whether it is truly organic.

Basically organic except without the certification of the soil quality and/or the non-hybridization of the seeds.

Does he use synthetic fertilizers or no?
