 Shows you need to watch
Hey all,
I see people posting in the forums asking for advice on books to read, games to play, etc. I thought I'd share another topic too, shows you need to watch. The criteria is simple: tell me a show that everyone should be watching and WHY. Simply saying "Watch Firefly, a**hole" isn't convincing, so make your point.
I'll start:
Spaced- If you've ever watched Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, you'll know why. Edgar Wright has brilliant writing and subtle humor, and Spaced takes the same direction as his movies. Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson play Tim and Daisy (respectively), two people that pretend to be a couple in order to get housing. The idea has been played out countless times, but Wright's style and the acting chops of the cast make this one of the most hilarious British shows that I've seen.
Raising Hope- Greg Garcia manages to take what went wrong with My Name is Earl, eliminate it, and create a better "low class family in hilarious situations" show that I can relate to. Maybe it's just me (since I was raised by lower class rednecks) but I find this show to be hilarious and charming. The characters are believable and hilarious, and the situations can be too.
Community- I know I don't have to explain this one, but I will anyway. The chemistry between this cast is fantastic. I dare you to say otherwise. The situations are hilarious, the meta-humor and genre bending is great, and Community really knows how to teeter on the lines of humor and drama. This show can be downright hilarious and still hold poignancy. If you want to give this show a chance, watch the Modern Warfare episode. Try not to get a boner.

HBO's "The Wire" - the best show ever put on TV, ever.
That is all.

Gman, I've heard it's good. I'll have to check it out.
I've been meaning to watch Breaking Bad. Thoughts?

I watch: Justified (FX) - I watch it because i love Timothy Olyphant
Falling Skies (TNT) - I dont know why but i got into this show. The whole situation they are in, fighting against alien life, just struck a chord with me.

Re: Shows you need to watch
But in all honestly, there is a new show premiering today called "Touch", featuring one of my favorite actors, Kiefer Sutherland. Looks very good :)

Re: Shows you need to watch
Can't believe no one has said The Walking Dead on AMC yet. It is the only show on TV that I have on series recording. Great story plus it has zombies.

Re: Shows you need to watch
HBO series are by far the best written, produced, and acted anywhere. Game of Thrones, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Deadwood, Generation Kill, and Rome are some of the best programs you will find. Production value exceeds big budget movies, and the length of the programming allows actors to actually become believable in thier rolls. HBO is seriously a step above and beyond any thing else on tv.
I love these shows too Always Sunny Archer Modern Family The Venture Brothers Any Seth Macfarlane Arrested devolpment (One of the best shows ever to get the ax) Battlestar Galactica (New Version)

Re: Shows you need to watch
I am going to have to pass on the OP's shows.
I'm currently watching:
Justified (awesome) Walking Dead (zombie awesomeness) Touch (I'm also a Keifer Sutherland fan, I miss 24 hella and have every season on DVD, only been 1 episode of Touch though) Weeds (I hope there's a next season) Dexter (my buddy loaned me all his seasons but I'm only on season 2) Spartacus (awesome machoness) The Simpsons (wish newer episodes were better, but some are still pretty good) Breaking Bad (super awesome, out of season right now) Falling Skies (also awesome and out of season) Game of Thrones (just started watching) Top Shot (history channel show about competitive shooting, it's tits)
Need to start watching:
Homeland (everyone says it's awesome) The Wire (everyone says it's awesome) Boardwalk Empire (is it as awesome as people say?)
Already seen Band of Brothers/The Pacific, both good, but BoB is better, one of my favorites of all time, I love anything WWII. Generation Kill also quite good. Kung Fu is definitely correct that HBO shows/production value are better than most movies.
Can't think of any more right now, but there's more.

Re: Shows you need to watch
@ winitnow Naruto/One Piece here, bleach isn't cutting it for me anymore
The Wire| I AM A HOMOSEXUAL, i think its over now but it was pretty crazy overall (i.e. Jimmy McNulty acting as a high class "John" :) ) Game of Thrones| Havent read the book prior to the first season but listened to audio books of books ahead and just want to see how it plays on on screen. Walking Dead| Zombies! I think I still want to kill off some of the characters though Justified| Main character is a "modern" cowboy with a big hat and draws his weapon when situation justifies shooting "...He drew his first.." Homeland| Main bitch is literally crazy but i hope that she can prove the threat is legit. "A soldier has been turned" is crazy but short side scenes show how it feels to be on the other side of the war and be labelled a "terrorist" Breaking Bad| Badass chemistry teacher uses his skills to "cook" but needs to also protect his family and self in the process. House| I still like house but i don't feel getting wow'd each episode
I'll watch the others later..prob just epsode 1 for each :)
