Anybody recommend any good books?

What kind of books do you like? Any specific genres?

Meh, I really like fantasy-ish books I am in love with LotR and I enjoyed the ender series but my interests are pretty broad

Horror = Ed Lee's Infernal series, Tom Piccirilli's "A Lower Deep", or "Off Season" by Jack Ketchum. Those come to the top of my mind but there is also a weird ass book called "Ambrosial Flesh" about a dark hero's struggle with cannibalism that I can't remember the author.

For fantasy type books, the R.A. Salvador's Crystal Shard Trilogy got me off in my teens.

Any book by Dan Brown. The movies "The Davinci Code," and "Angels and Demons" were both made after Dan Browns books. He only has 5, and there is another author named Dan Brown, so you have to make sure they are the right ones. But they are all extremely good. But ill list them from what I would consider the worst to the best.

1. Deception Point (Worst, but still really good.)
2. Digital Fortress
3. Angels & Demons
4. The Da Vinci Code
5. The Lost Symbol (the best.)

"The Lost Symbol" is my favorite. If you haven't read it, you should.They are actually making a movie about that book right now. Should be out within the next year, or so they say it will. Either way, when it comes out, its going into my collection.

i only know non-fiction books cause i like reading about real experiences for the most part. but i guarantee the best book you will ever read is call 5 years to freedom. i honestly feel like it should be required reading and i highly recommend it to everyone.

oh ya... and Gates of Fire is a fantastic historical fiction novel about the battle of Thermopylae.

I enjoyed Ender's Game a lot.

The Golden Compass is a decent read too. If you like it, there's two other books in the set.

If you're into Manga, try getting your hands on, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki. It's a 6 volume series and it's a compelling read. Another good series is Elfen Lied, the manga series puts the anime to shame (which is also good).

If you like the historical fiction (knights and archers and shit) Bernard Cornwells Holy Grail series is really good, I read through it 3 times. Im also just starting A Game of Thrones and it is decent so far. I highly recommend the Grail Quest though.

I also like historical fiction. Bernard Cornwell is good. I like the grail series and the saxon tale series. Also Jack Whyte's Camolud series, and templar knights series are pretty good. Conn Igguldens Julius Ceaser and Genghis Kahn books are good too. But i love fantasy, and you must read LotR, The Wheel of Time, A Song of Ice and Fire, and my fav light reading, the Harry Dresden Files.

Darkness Descending by Harry Turtledove. He takes WWII and puts a fantasy spin on it, it was awesome. It's a series, but I never found the rest of it. Still a damn good book though.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, as well as any of his other books.
The Shannara series (multiple series actually) and the Magic Kingdom of Landover series and Angelfire East as well as The Word and The Void, but Terry Brooks. <--Read Terry Brooks' series in their chronological order except the Landover series which is standalone.
The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, (and then read everything else by Stephen King)
Anything by Raymond E. Feist.
1984 by George Orwell.
The Trilogy by Lois Lowry (The Giver, Gathering Blue and Messenger -all 5th grade reading but essential).
A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

The dark tower series by Stephen king will put both of these to shame.

I read a lot. I've read through LotR twice, maybe three times, just to refresh my memory of it. It's not that great. The dark tower has the absolute best character development in any series that I've ever read. I've never had a series control my emotions like the dark tower did. Don't believe me? Read it.

Yes, and it's a FAAAAAAAAST read too. Starts off a little slow and shitty, but after the short bit that's like that in book one, it's like woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...and then if you're a Stephen King "constant reader", you read all of his other books (pretty much ALL of his 40+ books and short stories) and almost every single one gets cross-referenced and in each one cross-references, the Tower or some thread within the entire saga.
I think I was reading a book every day or two, maybe two days was my max length unless I was somehow time constrained to a couple hours of reading per day.

I'm in the middle of "The Hunger Games" trilogy and about to start book 3. Well worth the read (well in my case listen since I'm doing the audio books) and I am really enjoying it. Just got into audio books since I spend 4-6 hours a day driving for a living so I find it a nice change to the radio or my mp3 player.
