Two thoughts-
Joe Pa, even with everything that has happened recently, still did a F*CK ton of good things for Penn State. Don't forget that.
Also, Westboro exists solely for the purposes of suing people. Virtually all of their pickets have had at least one lawsuit filed by them against other "offenders", and since several of them are lawyers, they usually win. They make bank off of their jackassery simply because they know that law better.
