I've been thinking lately that Facebook is bad for me. I will, according to this poll, decide what is best for me: Facebook or no Facebook.

Depends on what you use it for. Not everyone that I know uses it, so it is useless to me for communication. Now if the government made it mandatory that everyone have an account, then it would be awesome.

I only have one because girlfriend demands it. Get rid of it. People can track you too easily, and it can get you in trouble.

I tend to keep my social footprint to an extreme minimum. I stayed clear of the MySpace boom and staying away from Facebook as well.

Keep it, its easier to creep on all your friends if you leave it active.

I got rid of mine because it was so depressing seeing everyone talk about how great thier lives are and mine sucks!.. and on a more factual point, i got so sick of people posting ten times in a single day telling me what they got at the grocery store and how much they love there hubby or how they can't wait to see there bestest friend in the world tonite or whenever and all that F*CKING shit.. who the F*CK wants to read that shit. i don't F*CKING care that your child took a shit at 4:30 am and mommy has been up since then and your day is terrible and then feels the need to post it and say " I'm the bestest mommy in the world".. no bitch your stupid becuase your 23 have no job, live off the government cuz your half-breed baby's daddy is who the F*CK knows and the government can't make that alien pay for shit!

I never was a big fan of social sites like Facebook and MySpace. I always saw them as an instant messenger that displays your personal information and conversations to everyone else you are willing to accept into your list of so called "friends ". Feeling awkward accepting people who might be disappointed or offended by things you say and with your friends. Feeling even more awkward not accepting people you really don't want bugging you on your computer. It just always seemed like to much drama for me. I prefer to communicate over the phone and text. I understand the allure to e-billboards, with your favorite pictures and your recent thoughts. It's all about staying connected and up to date with the lives of people you care about, but are unable to spend as much time together as the used to. Just not my cup of tea, to many people were always adding me

You can't delete it, you can only put it on pause. So everything that 'was' there still 'is' there, it's just that your obvious presence isn't there until you resume using it. This makes it easier to keep track of people by ensuring that they really very rarely would need a second or third account. One thing I sort-of dislike about Facebook and social networking in general is that even if I personally, don't post an event, someone else might and then the private nature of some events is gone. Even worse is being 'friends' with someone on Facebook and they post about illegal activities and you automatically have a connection to them due to perhaps being a regular contributor to their other postings which are of a more benign nature. Even worse is if you hang out with those people IRL but don't partake in illegal activities it is easier to make bad connections because of how it is designed. And a lot of people post these things despite repeated warnings that Facebook is funded in-part by the CIA.

Well there are two options; you can deactivate it (which is like you said, essentially "pausing" it), or you can actually delete it. Deleting it requires finding the button (just google it), agreeing, and then staying off it for something like 14 days (any log on will reactivate it). According to Facebook, deleted accounts are really deleted. That's what I've done and I can't really say I miss it...I still talk to the people I want to talk to but I spend less there (which just means I waste my time elsewhere) and I feel less vulnerable to the data haxors / identity thieves / government agents / nosy job recruiters.

I'm in between the two. I have facebook but don't have any pictures of me or any real information (I attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry). I think if you're smart about what you post and about what you allow others to see (I recommend having everything private from everyone except your friends), you can keep it.

What seems to be a problem?
1) group the people wisely (family, close friends, asshats)
2) set visibility of your info (personal, posts, photos, etc) as desired to (family, close friends, asshats, public)
3) put the real asshats on the restricted access list
4) disable all email notifications

I used to love Facebook. Then I noticed that people complained to much, and they expressed to much about there own issues. So I got rid of it. I'm much happier without it. Facebook is a huge waste of time. Get rid of it. If you want to know something about someone, talk to them in person. If you don't know them well enough to talk in person or over the phone/mic, what's the point in seeing their useless bullshit in the first place?
