 Just a thought...
If Ancient Aliens is real, it would mean that ancient aliens created ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations, thus also making the calenders, and December 21 2012 is the date of their return.

 Re: Just a thought...
Here we go again...
Sometimes these thoughts are best kept to yourself until the proper opportunity presents itself, which is not likely to happen on these forums. You may be able to discuss it in game with some people who find it interesting, but more likely find some friends IRL and ask them some intriguing questions, which means don't just vomit this information back out. Get them to arrive at the conclusion with subtle and gentle guidance.

 Re: Just a thought...
You know that if that stuff is true it's obvious that the civilizations would be alien-originated (or that the originators became aliens as a means of escaping the sandbox in order to observe and re-enter the system when the time was right). But at the moment it's just as plausible as a lot of other mumbo jumbo only there is a ton of science behind it, including NASA predicting huge cataclysms on the very same day that the Mayan prophecy also predicts a huge cataclysmic change in human consciousness.

 Re: Just a thought...
The Mayans didn't number their years like we do. Starting over counting years is something the christians did to better mark the whole jesus thing. If you talk to a jewish person they will tell you it's the year 5 thousand something. I have no idea hired the Mayans numbered their years, if they did number them at all.

No no no, about a month off. The world will end 11/6/2012 when the Islamist / Zionist / Kenyan / Indonesian / Communist / Fascist / Imperialist / Appeasing / etc POTUS gets reelected because the GOP candidates read like the punchline from a bad "walk into a bar" joke!

Kind of. ^ The Mayans used a "long count" calender to describe past or future events that did, or would, occur outside of the current "short count" calender. The short count calender was started over every 50 yrs or so. (A number close to a lifespan back then) 2012 is just when the long count calender resets. The Mayans would have celebrated the event almost like a turn of the millennium New Years and had no F*CKING clue what these doomsday idiots are talking about. I guess bored academics will still encourage idiots to get worked up over aliens and doomsday shit if it will sell a book or put thier fat face on T.V

NASA predictions are a completely different thing.

Nice find Judicator. This is imo best part: Quote: Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012? A: Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan calendar does not cease to exist on December 21, 2012. This date is the end of the Mayan long-count period but then -- just as your calendar begins again on January 1 -- another long-count period begins for the Mayan calendar.

Some scientists were simply stating that the solar flare that is predicted to occur would be strong enough to shut down the power grid, not super-serious, but I like using words like 'cataclysmic' because it strokes my e-peen.

 Re: Just a thought...
predicting a solar flare? sounds more impossible than predicting an earthquake or volcanic erruption, which they can use seismic activity for and are still inaccurate.
