Post My PC is also fucked. FML
So the reason you guys haven't seen me on any games lately is because my PC is shitting on me. I'll be in a game (and this only happens when I'm in a game) and my PC will just blackscreen on me. It will literally turn off as though someone unplugged the computer. No shutdown, no bluescreen. Again, this only happens when I'm in a game. I've checked all of my temperatures through SpeedFan both before, during a game and after it blackscreens and I start it back up and every component is running at the normal temperature. No overheating issues. I took a can of air to my tower and its been practically dust-free for 2 months now and I'm still having the same damn problem. I had this problem with my old HD 4750 and I'm still having it after I put in this GTX 460. Its not a GPU problem. I even took my sticks of RAM out to clean them off and switched them in each other's slots. No change. I'm at my wits end. I have no problems with my PC at all until I start up a game.

Could it be the power supply? Maybe the RAM itself? Other than those two possibilities, I'm completely clueless.

I would say it is a heating issue. A computer will shut itself off if it starts to get too hot, preventing a meltdown. I would first check for dust inside of the processors heatsink, and the videos cards heatsink as well. Then, I would check to see if it was a power supply issue. (not enough power, busted all together, or again, dust.)

I used to have this problem a lot too. I cleaned everything, ran big scans, nothing. It just fixed itself one day I guess...haven't had any problems since.

My brother had a similar problem but you clean your system so might not be it. Make sure all fans are running and nothing is blocking them, simply look at it spin when the computer is on.

Omega a good way to check to see if its a thermal issue is to pull the side panel off and run it like that. Also make sure all fans are spinging even the one on the video card. Also make sure that if your video card has a power connecter to use a lead that comes directly from the power supply none of that daisy chained bullshit.

It very well could be your power supply I had the same issue when i upgraded a few months ago my antec 550W PSU couldnt cut it and it would just shut off on me over and over again. These new cards require a shitload of power :/

well you could run a memory test program to see if there is any errors in your ram.
Also it very well could be a psu issue. Ive seen people attempt to run cards with a poor psu and it will Bsod, black screen or artifect in games. Any of these issues signal a Psu change ASAP to avoid permanently damaging the card.

Also its not likely but your Mobo could simply be taking a shit on you, some times certain slots such as a pci-e slot or a ram slot will just go bad. If thats the case you might want to rma the board for a new one

UPDATE:

Ran memtest86: no errors. Looks like my RAM is fine. So not only is nothing overheating but my RAM is good to go. This narrows the list down to a few things: bad motherboard or a bad power supply. I could either bring my PC to a local Computer Exchange/Geek Squad and have them run a hardware diagnostic thing for anywhere from $50-$80 (which I am loath to do) or just order the power supply, install it and hope that fixes the problem. I can always send it back before 90 days if it turns out that the motherboard is to blame.

This F*CKING sucks.

Corsair and some other places sell Psu testers for like 20 bucks so you may be able to test this thing if you get one of those. Also try to give me some specs on the psu your using such as total wattage and how many amps or on the +12V. Newer cards or even Hd 4 series cards consume alot of power that an older 350-400Watt Psu just cant handle. Also the make/model of your motherboard could be helpful

Your PSU should be able to handle that GFX card no problem. Take ONE stick of RAM out and run it like that...if it shuts off, put the second one back in and take the first one out and once again run it with just the one stick of RAM. If it shuts off again then it takes the RAM out of the equation completely because if it was your RAM and both stick were bad then your PC wouldn't even run in the first place. I think your PSU just may not be running as it should be. Get back to me after you do the RAM thing...I'll help you troubleshoot everything
