Bought an EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1GB card from newegg for $169.99. I currently use a Radeon HD 4750 card. Did I make a mistake?

I saw that, too. Clearly, its leaps and bounds better than the HD 4750, but perhaps there are much better cards than the gtx 460 that are around the $160~ price tag? I didn't do the proper amount of research, admittedly.

Well you see that's what I'm running into right now. I'm suppose to be getting a new computer that is going to be leaps and bounds better than my old one (I think I have like a Radeion 7800... yes it's that old and I think the comp I'm getting comes with a Radion HD 4XXX which I'm trying to get confirmed from Ashley or my dad but they aren't squealing to my dismay. Sorry if it sounds like I'm hijacking your post it's just I've been wondering if I need to get a new Video Card or if mine will be decent enough to play all the new games that are coming otu that others are playing.

Look at the link I posted for Omega. Of the 4xxx series, only the 4870 shows up on this chart. Not bad cards but not super duper awesome either. Omega's card is actually on the low-end for newer cards all things considered. The 4870 will give you like 300 fps in CSS but I'm not sure of the maxframes for other games like Skyrim or BF3.

Well if I have to play BF3 like I do CS:S (with 30 FPS) I will be a happy camper

Im still rocking an oldschool evga 8600-GTX that works wonders for me. Havent ran into anything where I have frame issues or over heating issues. My advice is to get whatever runs what you want it to and not worry too much about the rest. Learned that its not always the number at the end rather than the performance you get, lots of computer teching work taught me that

You'll easily get 30fps on bf3 unless you have a bottleneck somewhere else on your system.

Like I said yesterday I havent touched the video settings on bf3 so i assume they're lower than most folks like.

I've not had much luck with SLI just because most games I've played didn't really support it. I assume it helps with modern games though.

Make sure your PSU can handle it.

do all motherboards support SLI? I know for a fact that my motherboard is "crossfire ready," but I dont know if its sli ready. Im trying to find the specific model of ASUS M4 motherboard I have to make sure but Im gonna have to restart the ol beast to find out. Im lazy.

And I have a 700 or 750 watt power supply. Either/or. Pretty sure thats enough. \

What games don't support it? I'd be playing the usual ones: battlefield 3, Skyrim, some fallout games, Source and the assasins creeds. I was under the impression that those are all new enough to support it.

CSS "allows" it but works way better on a single card.WoW didn't allow it at all. I've not SLI'd bf3 since I don't have a need.

You do need a SLI ready mobo.

That mobo is not SLI, it is Xfire though so if you had 2 AMD cards then that'd work but alas you have nvidia.

speaking of video cards....im using the integrated intel hd 3000 on my quad core i5, and planning on buying a new one. Can someone please tell me a decent card under $250ish. Thanks

kind of as stated above sli/crossfire are basically the same thing put out by two different company's in order to run it you will need: a motherboard that is sli or crossfire ready(depending on which style you want to choose) and a high end power supply unit(PSU). By high end psu i mean that you need a 650w psu with at least 2 rails if not 4. frankly i would recommend 750-1kw psu with 4 rails by a damn good manufacture. also you should look into getting a good UPS(double conversion or double conversion/hybrid) due to the fact that when you start really making a gaming PC your investing not only a lot of time/money but the fact is that the larger the load(voltage) your placing on your system components the easier it is for something to fry from line noise, black/brown outs, lightning etc. double conversion UPS will save all your gear from those kind of issues. The same applies to your PSU, it will have a lot of demand on it, which makes it a LOT easier to break/send to much or to little voltage to your components, ive seen motherboards,graphics cards,ram, hard drives etc so forth fried from cheap ass psu's. it can still happen with a good one, but its a lot less likely.
