I made a ring.

I started out with a 1964 Kennedy half-dollar. It's 90% silver and 10% copper and has a spot value of about $11 today. I picked up a couple of them for $12 each at a local coin shop. The reason I went with a 1964 is because in 1965 they switched to a shittier blend of metals that's a lot less flexible -- 40% silver and 60% copper.

I started by hammering out the edges, then drilled out the middle. All-in-all, it took about 8-9 hours to complete over the course of two weekends.... but it was an excuse to buy a lot of shit (like a good dremel, a tiny hammer, and a cast iron anvil) so it was worth it.

Here's some of the inside view; you can still see the text on the coin: this side reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"




This side reads "LIBERTY" on the inside




And here's a picture of what it looks like on my gigantic man-hand; I decided not to polish it up too much because I want it to have that hand-hammered look. I could have easily sanded it down and made it look like something from the jewelry store but why the F*CK would I put all the time and effort into something like this if I just wanted it to look like a $5 ring from the flea market:



I might do another one here shortly but I'm not sure. It was a shitload of work.

nice gman i would advise atleast sanding the edges a little if you get that thing hung on something looks like it will skin your finger

It needs to be gone over with some 600+ grit on the inside and around the edges, but it's not uncomfortable at all.

I posted this on FB and my girlfriend's family kept hitting her up asking her if it was a wedding ring. It is not a F*CKING wedding ring. In fact, now I think I might make her one just so her family is even more suspicious about the whole ordeal.

Nice man.My dad told me how to do that when i was like 9 or 10.He told me to use a spoon to beat the sides,i beat that F*CKING thing forever and never got it wide enough to drill out.You have great patience and now a cool ring.All i had after months was a shitty attitude and a beat up half dollar.
